The good: Unique property and suites. The bad: Was notified 2 hours before check in that the Gale suite that I specifically wanted and booked months prior was unavailable d/t the door unable to be unlocked, was given choice of 2 alternate suites. Felt like the front desk staff could have cared less. We stayed in the Miller suite and the king sized bed was horribly uncomfortable, the mattress had to be years old, sunken in on one side. The pillows were terrible. Unable to watch TV from the bed if that is something you would have liked to do. The property paths were not all cleared of snow. The pool area was ok the hot tub jets did not work, which other older reviews pointed out too so guess they don’t feel the need to address the issue. Had a pool table but the 8 ball was missing and apparently from another review left Nov 2020 it was missing then too. Pool cues had no tips. Ate at the Copper Mug for dinner and it was just ok, dining was set up in the ballroom d/t Covid so wasn’t the cozy dining experience I would have liked. The whole property needs better upkeep, disappointing for the amount of money you spend. …
We stayed in the Llandoll suite. I was a little worried about our stay reading all the complaints. We found it a unique place to stay and couldn't understand all the complaints. It is not a modern , brand new hotel, but that is the whole point. Our suite was clean , very private, quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. My only wish would be coffee pods. It seemed strange since there is a coffee maker. The shower was fine, I would never use a bathtub in a hotel anywhere. All staff we came in contact with were helpful and friendly. You can easily walk to the pool or on site restaurant from most of the buildings. We took our grandson and he loved that he got to stay in a castle. We also ate two meals at the Copper Mug and thought the food was excellent.
my boyfriend and i have decided to start coming to landolls every year for our anniversary. last year was the first time we stayed and it was absolutely phenomenal, and the food was outstanding. we stayed at the thane cottage both time, it’s a cute little cabin located about a 3 minute walk from the restaurant as well as the castle. it has its own private deck with a hottub. when you enter the cabin it’s very cozy, one of the only complaints i have is how small the walk in shower is. the other complaint i have is the year prior we had this cute little tray in the kitchen of different snacks/drinks we could add to our bill, but luckily we brought our own this trip. the restaurant is very good, but not as a good as it was the year prior. they seemed to have really cut down the quality of their food. i got the same exact meal as i did last year and both changed for the worse. one of the main reasons we re booked our stay was because we thought the copper mug was the best restaurant we ever had. the spinach artichoke dip did not come in a bread-bowl anymore, and was definitely less creamy. and the chicken alfredo was average. overall, i will definitely be back, the staff is all so nice and the grounds are beautiful. …
A beautiful place with lots of character. However, for the price it would be nice for there to be some attention to detail. For over $300 per night, I wish I’d known I need to request a massage 48 to 72 hours ahead of time! I had to walk to the lobby in the morning to get a packet of coffee for the coffee maker. The television is not HD. Just little stuff, but it’s kind of a castle so people will still pay the big bucks.
My husband booked the Thane Cottage for a night to get away for my birthday. We got there around 5:30pm and were greeted by a very lovely front desk staff member. We were given our keys, a map of the property and told where we could park to be close to the cottage. We had made reservations at the restaurant which happened to be a few steps away from the cottage. Food was good - nothing special but ok. Service was very good. Our waitress did a great job and brought out a birthday dessert on the house. The cottage was clean. Quite dated but the area where the bed was looked more modern. The shower was small and barely fit one person. We didn't try the jetted tub in the bathroom. There were clean towels and minimal toiletries. The kitchen. Had two mismatched wine/champagne glasses. Very small table. Room had a gas fireplace with a remote that warmed up the cottage very quickly and a record player but a selection of records to play. Nice touch. We used the hot tub out on the deck which was clean and a nice treat. The deck itself was full of debris but had a light coating of snow so it was possible no one swept before then. The bed itself was just ok and not very comfortable but good enough. We left at 3am. Why? Well, I was woken up at midnight but loud thumping just outside our door. it is a detached cottage with nothing around. It occured about 3-4 times and I tried to ignore. Close to 3am, the fireplace turned on by itself. We were both in bed and the remote was in its place across the room. I actually didn't know about the ghost stories said about this place until a couple of days before and my husband didn't know when he booked. He doesn't really believe in those things. The fireplace even spooked him! We promptly grabbed our things because I wasn't going to sleep after that and tried to call someone to ask where to leave the keys but our room phone was all static. Someone picked up (owner?) and told us to leave the key in the room. As we were walking out, we noticed that it was pitch black as they had shut off all the walking path lights. The only lights were the ones we turned on the porch. Those started turning off and on for several seconds when we stepped out the door. My husband thought it was due to a motion sensor but that would mean they would stay on with movement. The problem magically resolved itself after we walked off the steps into the walking path and they remained lit without flickering. In summary, the cottage was clean although very basic. It has the potential to be very romantic. Even so, I wouldn't seek out to stay here again as you can get more for the same price elsewhere. If you're spooked easily, don't stay here.…
