So the facilities for a hostel are up there with the best I've stayed in in all of Australia. Kitchen, bathrooms, lounge all tip top But there is a very edgy atmosphere, signs everywhere warning you of this and that, a strict hostel manager, locks everywhere and no music at all. It makes it very unwelcoming. The room is also... More

After a long day of narrowly avoiding bashing cute wildlife, we were exhausted. Seeking cheap accommodation we buzzed the locked front door of Swansea Backpackers. We waited, and eventually a grumpy old woman emerged to tell us the rate. 35... each. Not exactly a bargain, so we mulled it over over a couple pizzas at the joint next door. Around... More

Good stay in general. Easy to find, clean and spacious facilities. Just a couple of issues: there is no heating in rooms! One of the beds in ours had an electric blanket, but the other didn't. My friend and I had to sleep together not to freeze :( And the kitchen and bathroom cleaning takes place from 9-11am, so you... More

Stayed for one night which was ok. The room was a good size but when we arrived we were given some sheets to make our own bed. The place was kept clean and tidy but kept that way by the customers. There are eateries nearby and the town centre is a short walk away.

This was a strange place. It was clean and comfortable, however $35/night is very expensive for a hostel, and everything costs extra - $4 per night if you want sheets (they'll allow you to use your own sleeping bag, though); $5 to use the washing machine and another $5 for the dryer; $1 per 15 minutes on the stove top!... The terrible stuff list is too long. First, there is a big sign outside saying Wi Fi. It should say wi impossible. Absolutely impossible to connect and they give you only 1 hour total for 24 hours. I was ,maybe, almost connected when the hour ran out. The person who set it up thinks layer upon layer of security (impossible... More

Straight out, if we weren't over the day (we had pushed through the previous hour already) I would NOT have stayed here after the "welcoming". Luckily I was worn out and quite cheerful when the host growled at me for pressing the bell button ("you silly girl you saw me coming!" - glass is tinted, yes I saw movement, no... More

Well with the two other caravan parks in Swansea having given up on campers..Backpackers is the only place to set up a tent (legally). However, my experience there was great! Yes, it's $25 for a single person with tent, but the facilities are really top notch. The shower/bathrooms are clean and private units, the common room and kitchen is spacious... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at Swansea Backpackers for one night while traveling around Tasmanian East coast on the way to Hobart and both are glad we didn't book for any more nights. We paid almost $40 each - price you normally would pay for a private room- for a 6 bed dorm. What we get in return was quite... More

We rang the bell which had a sign on it that said "ring bell once and wait 90 seconds." A woman who I'm assuming is Bev came out a couple of minutes later and her general tone was agitated as if we'd done something to annoy her. We got the wifi info and it worked for 5 minutes and then... More
