Your typical hotel/motel this is NOT. It's an old converted hospital, run by an extremely friendly man called Mick (and his wife whose name I've forgotten - Sorry!). There's a comfortable communal lounge area, where you can sit and meet the other guests, most of whom will be visiting/working on MMG's Rosebery mine, which is right next door (It's easy...

Since staying at Mount Black Lodge on 2 more occasions since my first “Spooky” review, I think that it is only fair to provide a more up to date review of the place. Sure, it is still slightly spooky ( it is a re-purposed hospital) and isn’t without the odd story of haunted rooms, but if you do get the...

Not the easiest entrance to find at the side of the mine works entrance but we were made very welcome by Mick and Caroline. The room was comfortable and clean, if a little tired, and there was an radiator to fend off the cold. The communal kitchen facilities were adequate for making an evening meal, if a bit on the...

If you're looking for a run of the mill motel or generic brand place to stay, this ain't it! It is perhaps the fact that the entrance to this lodge is entirely taken up by a floor to ceiling bird cage housing a moth-eaten parrot of indeterminate colours who seems to have made a career of coating the branches of...

We had a great stay here, the room was clean and comfortable, the only thing I felt let it down a bit was the bed linen was old and wore, how ever it was clean. It's a very quirky place and a great find, lots of atmosphere. The food in the restaurant was fantastic, using local produce, we had the...

We stayed here for three nights and it was wonderfull. Felt very welcome due to the hospitality of Mick and Caroline. The room was spacious, clean and had everything that we needed. The location was great to further explore the west of tasmania. Both Strahan and Cradle Mountain are very easy to reach from here. The food in the restaurant...

After a hard day of climbing up and down Cradle Mountain and changing a flat tyre, we needed somewhere warm and comfortable to spend the night. I found Mount Black Lodge through this site and we were lucky they had a room available for us. Mick and his wife greeted us very warmly and showed us around the lodge, giving...

If staying here make sure you book a room with a view - we had a stunning view from a large window across the mountain ranges. Room was generously sized, comfortable and clean. Shower was in the bedroom itself with clear plastic doors which might make things uncomfortable if not a couple sharing, but fine for us. Host were friendly...

Sheets were unclean, smelled of mould. Terrible accomodation that I would not recommend to even my worst enemy. It was the worst experience of my life

What a strange place! Located next to the entrance to the mine, this is an ex-hospital - no wonder the doorways were so wide! Our room was large enough, but with the toilet and shower clearly an add-on in the room, the shower is in the corner of the room, and the toilet partitioned off, within the room. Although this...
