This is an eccentric hotel. The virtues are John & Gina, the welcoming patrons; the vices are the too many shabby parts of the old hotel, for example the mess around the fireplace in the bar/dining area. It is eccentric because it contains too many elements of Fawlty Towers, the menu is haphazard and the booking system is erratic, but...

Having read the reviews about this place but having been in many hotels/b&b's and up for most things we decided to book in here for two nights on our way from the south to the north of Tasmania. We were met by Gina. who took us up a dingy staircase with threadbare & dirty carpet to our en suite room....

We stopped in for breakfast after a night In the free camping area at Bethune Park. The owners were so accommodating we stayed the night and didn't want to leave! Great food, excellent coffee, beautiful rooms- we will be back to see Gina and John!

After spending all day travelling in our campervan we stopped in at the free camping area down the road from the inn. We made our way up to the inn for a drink and to warm up in front of the fireplace. We striked up a conversation with the publican who offered us a park in his yard beside the...

After a very long drive and the sun coming down, we were kind of desperate to find somewhere to sleep. And then, we entered the Hamilton inn. This is the kind of place that makes you think you are in Middle Earth, or in a fantasy novel... You can just imagine the trolls and fairies running through the corridors. So...

This looked so great on the website and I was keen to stay in a rustic hotel in Tasmania. The loft bedroom was awkward, no head room at all. I enjoyed dinner by the fireplace but honestly, I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good rest in a comfortable bed. Only one coffee shop was...

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic, quaint and friendly Inn. Our cosy room in the loft of the hotel was probably the best nights sleep I experienced in all of our trip around Tasmania. Gina cooked us a delicious meal of local salmon and chicken kiev which we enjoyed with a beer beside the warm fireplace in the bar....

I don't normally write reviews, as i am always afraid to be cliche , but my short stay at the Hamilton was a delight to very much seasoned traveller who felt i had just returned home to a older brother and sister John and Gina. John welcomed us at the door, a old school gentleman and possibly a highlight to...

We stayed (strayed?) here as a lucky dip "stay in a pub" in the countryside as night fell. It's a large old place in a town which in some aspects hasn't changed at all in 30 odd years ("bankcard" sticker at the local servo!), indulging childhood timewarp fantasies, other than the few loudly advertised touristified businesses. The pub from outside...

Hamilton inn seemed to be the only local pub in Hamilton. A nice old building located in a quaint little town. We stopped here for an afternoon drink and decided to have a snack too. Basic good food. Nice place to stop as we started our trip into rural Tasmania.
