I started going to Yelapa in the mid 90's. (Have traveled Mexico since the late 70's.) Reviewers who were disappointed Hotel Lagunita made some good points about the web site being much more sophisticated than the property. It is very primitive! !! I have had some very challenging experiences in Yelapa -- the river, the horses, etc.; yet it has...

Tiny pueblo, water access only, no roads or cars. Excellent birding, beautiful beach. Lucas and staff very helpful and accommodating

I loved Hotel Lagunita - I actually joined Trip Advisor just to make a post. My boyfriend and I went there during the off season and had a great time. We were looking for a relaxing, private, and low-tourist place to go in Puerto Vallarta. Yelapa is it. It's close to PV, but only accessible by boat, which cuts down...

Loved being right on the beach - sound of the waves crashing. Staff was helpful and nice. Food in the restaurant was mediocre. The place was pretty run down. We had a good stay there, but I felt like the price should have been about half of what it was for what you are getting.

I was not prepared for this... but after Hotel Lagunita, I can take anything. I will remember this hotel for the rest of my life but not in a good way, the food was ok but everything tasted the same, only two waiters deserve tipping because the waitresses were not very happy every time I wanted to ask for anything,...

I love Lagunita, the time between my trips was way too long ( 13 yrs) it was much more rustic with electicity only in the evenings but it was still the same charming hide away I remember.. This place is a relaxation haven, don't go there for anything other than to disconnect and enjoy the view. I love the staff...

Things not yet addressed in previous reviews: This is the only inn in Yelapa on the beach -- all others are on the rocks or inland. Your best option. The website is sleeker than the place itself. If "funky" has negative connotations to you, Yelapa might not be for you. Plenty of ex-pat burnouts. Nothing to buy in Y, so...

I was prepared for "rustic" accommodations, but I expected far better service than I've gotten at Hotel Lagunita. The food is awful, and the kitchen staff are apparently unwilling to make accommodations for diners wanting anything other than fried tortilla chips and tacos. The bathroom smells (and on top of this they ask you to throw your toilet paper away...

A gorgeous 40-minute coastal water taxi ride from Puerto Vallarta to tropical Yelapa. The hotel consists of a number of palapas nestled at the foot of the jungle and lining the very pretty and clean beach. The restaurant is good, the service friendly and professional and the location perfect. There's even a large swimming pool overlooking the sea. This is...

And we don't mean that in a positive way. We have stayed around the world in many spartan accommodations, but there is a profound difference between simple and scummy. We had planned to stay for a week and left as soon as we could find other accommodations because it was peak season. We shared our "hut" with a large land...

“My best advice would be to stay away until the owners fix it up”
  • Tarpaulins covering parts of the roof instead of proper palapa maintenance
  • someone else's discarded coconut with straw adorning our cheap plastic table for two days.
  • Bathroom light fixture falling out of the wall
  • Place for former toilet roll holder!
  • Warped sink counter top with poorly maintained and functioning taps.
