We didn't stay at the Hotel but just met friends for lunch. Have enjoyed varying experiences here since the days when it was the Royal Oak which have been hit and miss, it has now had another change of hands and refurnishment. The new décor was very relaxing and although it wasn’t very busy, the food was excellent (we took advantage of the 2-4-1 offer) Service was fine and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Well worth a visit and we look forward to coming again.
We stayed on night and paid extra for the Royal Suite. Lovely large room but not spotless. The bathroom has no mirror, there are holes where clearly one used to be but it hasn't been replaced. There is no extractor fan in the bathroom either so as soon as we opened the door to the actual suite you are hit with a musty damp smell from the bathroom. The lamp fittings and ceiling chandeliers full of cobwebs and it needed a good dust overall. Fabulous velux window which made for a lovely breeze. There must have been a curtain pole at some point but this was missing and again gaping holes in the plaster. A couple of pictures would at least covered that up. I wouldn't usually be so picky at all but when you book a room with the name of Royal Suite I expected more. I would probably book a different next time to compare. The restaurant was fabulous, great meal and lovely atmosphere.…
Floors had not been vacuumed, uncomfortable mattress and pillows, leaky shower, seals blown in windows, creaky floorboards and walls paper thin. No coffee machines at breakfast, no continental alternative. Overall, a terrible nights sleep, poor attention to detail and won’t be returning.
We visited Hockely House on the night of 14 June for a family meal, 7 of us. We arrived at 7pm, the time we had booked the table for. There were a few people sitting outside drinking and the restaurant was pretty much empty. It took the waitress 15 minutes to come and take our order for drinks and food. We only ordered a main course each, no starters. After waiting a further 50 minutes for our food I enquired how long it was going to be. "Just a few more minutes, we've just reminded the Chef" was the reply from the waitress. The food arrived and I have to say it was OK, but unless you had pizza, I can honestly say I've had more generous starters than we got for a main course. We found the waitress who served us to be "indifferent" and we felt she had a poor attitude for someone in the hospitality industry, no apology for the lateness of the food which by the time we received it was well over an hour after placing the order. The waitress repeatedly got our drinks order wrong and ended up trying to charge us for drinks we hadnt had. I ordered a pint of bitter shandy. She came back and said "we dont have that drink." I said "its bitter shandy, beer mixed with lemonade". She replied " we don't have it"! We ate our meals and left. We didnt bother with desserts, to be frank we found the menu uninspiring. In short, poor service made worse as the place was practically empty, and meagre portions. We won't be returning. Definitely not recommended.…
I can’t recall the exact price but less than £70 for the night and the room was decent. The bar and restaurant look nice and although I didn’t eat here another guest said that the breakfast was great - and only £8. The hotel is surrounded by trees and grass so I would imagine there are good running / walking routes available. I would recommend and will come back again if I’m staying in the Solihull area.
Nicely surprised by this good value hotel. Can sit outside or nice bar inside for food which is 2 for 1 on meals across the menu which were both delicious. Very good cocktails! Note the bar closes at 11 & we didn’t realise which would have been good to know. The room was nice and airy but sadly We struggled to sleep due to creaky floorboards above us and banging doors. Breakfast was buffet style with lots of choice. If you ask at the bar you can have a proper coffee rather than the Nescafé.
We first visited Hockley House Hotel purely for lunch 2 or three months ago and we have been back several times since. Conveniently situated just a few hundred yards before the M40 junction as you head south down the A3400, this Hotel has excellent parking just a few yards from the main building. We always visit at lunch time and we appreciate the fact that the restaurant has a pleasant peaceful atmosphere. Linda our waitress has always been very friendly and helpful introducing us to the great value 2 - 4 - 1 items on their comprehensive menu. This means that on this part of the menu if you order two main courses you will get the cheaper one free. Excellent menu choice with the fine meals well presented and served with a smile. Would certainly recommend if you are in the area, especially around lunchtime.…
Went for a Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. The food was lovely although the price of the child's roast lunch was not advertised and I was a bit surprised to find on the bill that it was only £3 cheaper than an adult meal given the significantly smaller portion size, and also price relative to the other kids meals. The staff were all pleasant and friendly but the paper menus were a bit grubby with food/drinks stains on them. Have taken a star off the rating as I noticed when we received the bill that we'd been overcharged on all the food items. When questioned, the staff said that the menu prices were the old prices but did agree to charge us the prices that we shown on the menus.
We attended a wedding here, and everything was amazing from start to finish. Nothing was to much trouble. The staff delivered excellent customer service. I have a food allergy, and this was Catered for, and the food was amazing. Well done to you all.
Actual place was good value for the money we paid. As it seemed fairly clean. Service - Can you book us a taxi? Yes, but better if you do it yourselves as we have to go and find you otherwise… Can we have a drink (10.30am) No- the bar isn’t serving alcohol you can have a coffee there though. Returning from a wedding we (8 friends ages 30s-60s) went to the bar for a nightcap. We were refused as they didn’t have a licence to serve us at 11.40 pm…..! But we were told we could go to their function room and get one there. However, there was a wedding in full swing do we didn’t want to gate crash their private event. Early next morning- my friend was refused coffee as they weren’t serving yet…. We didn’t bother to order breakfast at that point.
