Me and my partner stayed at this hotel in September of 2021. The stay wasn’t awful if I’m being honest the hotel was lovely. However my card was charged multiple payments. Once I noticed I contacted the hotel about this but never received a reply. Eventually I have up trying and a year later I still haven’t received a reply. Disgusting service, such lack of respect for the customer
Myself and partner really enjoyed staying here! Room was immaculate! Bathroom massive with a fab shower! Very spacious ! Loved the lively atmosphere in the beer garden area was fabulous ! Staff very keen to help! If we ever visit Uttoxeter again we would definitely book this hotel again! Thankyou for a great stay 😃
Well where to start with the White Hart Hotel... The Hotel is conveniently located and there was plenty of parking at the rear of the building. Check in was painless enough. First impressions are good, the bar/restaurant area looked very nice, was clean and had quite a few people in there for a Tuesday evening. The external of the building looks a bit tired and could do with a paint but the doesn't affect my stay. Our room looked very nice, the first thing to greet us was the temperature of the room, it was absolutely scorching. Really uncomfortably hot. The TRV valve on the radiator wasn't working which meant that the heating was stuck on full in the room(!!!) and to make matters worse the windows have child restrictors. The Building is obviously extremely old and full of character but that doesn't lend itself in the best of light sometimes. Some negatives, some pandantic, the one light in the room (ceiling) was very dim, either a bulb problem or an Earth fault on the Electric, the bulbs are warm LED with the bed lights being cold (don't like it when they are mixed), the wooden decoration around the room to ceiling has movement and needs caulking, several of the triangle lead windows are cracked or have holes. There is missing silicon in the Bathroom around the path panel, the feet of the sink unit are scratched and rusted, the bathroom door needs overhauling, it's catching at the bottom, the Extractor is connected to the light (issue if you shower in the evening or day) and you can't use the window properly as there are child restrictors on the window in there also. Carpet near door is stained. Bed slates have broken over time and been replaced with MDF board, remote control doesn't display TV Guide, Volume controls channels and Channel controls Volume. Hotel provides WiFi but doesn't display the password in the room (such a easy thing to do). The Tea Caddy is good, nice selection. A bottle of water would be nice to add that touch of finesse. There are small, individual bottles by the bath but there are big bottles by the sink (for every guest that stays), I don't like this (they are close to empty), you always want to feel like the only guest that has stayed there. Again a small change. As I've said in the title, it needs work and is an OK stay if this is what you are looking for or what the owners/managers are aiming for then it's fine. Just putting these points out there for them to be worked on.…
We were passing through Uttoxeter and left it rather late for lunch. We dropped in on the White Hart as it was still serving. Our reception was excellent, friendly and helpful. We had the restaurant area to ourselves and got personal treatment. The steak baguettes were first rate, 6 oz of decent steak with a substantial salad dressing. A pint of the guest bitter (Barcays) was a great lubricant. We'd come again to try the rest of the menu.
Lovely building. I was not the only person to be unhappy about the tinny music coming out of the courtyard - I witnessed someone complain and it was turned down once but then back up again because of "policy". I tried to get an early night but the same five tracks on a loop drove me mad. My room window is broken so it doesn't close so there's no getting away from the bloody noise. If I Could Turn Back Time, All by Myself...throat-slitting misery. I didn't think music reproduction so bad was possible a quarter of the way into the 21st Century, but they've found some Edwardian squawk box to presumable keep those pesky customers away.
Arrived and checked in on Saturday evening to go to our room to find it hadn’t been cleaned at all, the bed had been slept in and there was rubbish and food wrappers everywhere (see photos) went straight to reception who apologised and offered a new room key which was for the room next door. we came to realise that unfortunately there was no heating in the room apart from a small plug in heater. Went back up to our room and were woken up at 1:30 am by a drunken couple arguing in the room next door screaming and shouting and banging doors and then trying to unlock our door several times which went on until around 4am, I completely understand that people like to go out and have a drink but that was unacceptable. We went downstairs first thing to speak to someone to ask if the couple were staying the second night as we was going to ask to move rooms if so, but was advised by the boy on reception that they were a walk in booking last minute late at night and they had already checked out… I would highly recommend for the hotel manager to put rules in place to prevent this sort of thing happening, I wouldn’t mind if it was advertised as a cheap quick stop hotel but the prices are too high for it to be used as stop off point for drunken couples, if this is the type of business they want then that should be advertised as I would not have booked this place knowing we wouldn’t get hardly any sleep! The second night the heating still wasn’t working so we went downstairs for some drinks to warm up and asked if the heating could be turned on, so the bar staff text the manager and said he will be up to turn on the radiator, we got a knock around 10pm from the same bar man to say that the manager advised the heating had broke and we could move rooms again if we wanted but declined as we were checking out in the morning and was already on the third floor and the room was on the fourth so didn’t want to have to pack up and bring all of our stuff another flight of stairs to then have to lug it all back down again in the morning. Overall the downstairs (restaurant and bar) were really nice, staff were friendly, we had dinner on the first night and it was okay (steak wasn’t the best quality) but the cocktails were really nice Room was lovely and big but unfortunately far too cold to bear and the bathroom was icy cold so unbearable to have a comfortable bath or shower in. The bed wasn’t made to an acceptable standard for a hotel in our opinion, it looked as if someone had just thrown the covers on and sheet wasn’t tucked in (we didn’t comment on this as we were just pleased to be given a clean bed considering the first one was filthy) the mattress was not comfortable in the slightest, it was a king bed but we found ourselves constantly rolling into the centre of the bed each night, pillows are super flat and felt very old and used. It’s a shame we had such an awful experience as looking at it, this place has some great potential. A couple of things below we would suggest; Staffing- we was not sure who worked at this accommodation as the reception desk was always empty and we found whenever we went there to speak to someone, someone who would be sitting at a table with a group of people would get up to ask if we were okay, we wasn’t sure if they actually worked there or if they were just regulars in the place helping out? Would be good to see a uniform or name badge system so you can easily identify who are staff - whenever we asked, the manager or someone who manages the hotel side was never available to talk or be seen, only the bar staff and they were unsure of any questions we asked so we would have to wait for them to text the manager and wait for a response heating issues - if there was a problem with the heating then we should have been notified prior to our arrival or put in a suitable room where there was heating, it was super uncomfortable and as mentioned before too expensive to stay here to not have that luxury! Key- possibly might want to invest in a nicer keyring for the rooms, we were handed a single key with a cheap plastic tag on it which was really scruffy and cheap looking (see photo) Cleaning- ideally all rooms should be checked before people check in to make sure that the beds have been changed and room cleaned as that was completely unacceptable, also might be worth noting that a bit more effort of the presentation of the beds as walking in first thing you wouldn’t realise that the beds have been made to a professional standard which makes you doubt if the bed has been changed from the previous guests! I now understand why they make you pay upon arrival rather than at checkout (like most decent hotels) as the standard of this hotel is exceptionally poor and I would not have paid the full price if I had known how uncomfortable our stay would have been!…
Please ignore the old reviews that say that it’s a nosy and rowdy venue, it isn’t true anymore. We stayed on a Friday night and everything was quiet by midnight. We stayed in room 12a and it was clean and modern (I say clean, the bathroom was literally sparkling). Lovely and warm too, which was good as we’d gotten pretty chilly during the day. It was also a big room, had we needed to, we’d easily had fitted a travel cot into the room and had room to spare. Dinner was very tasty and the cocktails very enjoyable too. I would advise booking a table for dinner as it was quite busy. I have two very minor things to mention. We had spent the day at Nelson’s Gin Distillery and School (less than 5 miles away) but yet there was no Nelson’s on the gin menu (it might have been behind the bar, but we only sat at our table). It seemed a real shame to not offer such a local (and incredibly tasty) product. Secondly, the windows could do with a net curtain for privacy. The curtains didn’t do a superb job at stopping the sunlight, luckily it wasn’t a bright morning but once it did brighten up a bit, the room was very light with the curtains closed. Regardless of that, we’d definitely come back if we went back to the gin school or even if we go to Alton towers, there’s quite a few things to do in the surrounding area and the restaurant is most definitely worth a revisit. We didn’t have breakfast but it looked and smelled great (and it’s served from 7-12 so good if you’re not an early riser)…
Great ad hoc visit without booking, very busy but fitted us in. Great service and best steak and ale pie I have had in Ages. Lovely big chunks of tender steak in a rich gravy. My wife had a lasagna which again was beautiful.
We’ve had breakfast, lunch and cocktails here recently, all have been faultless. Breakfast is reasonably priced & really filling. Lunch is just amazing, loaded fries & burgers are a must! The cocktails aren’t to be missed either, the staff can’t do enough for you. Lovely place with a relaxed atmosphere. Been today with my almost 2 year old and they are so accommodating, will be returning next weekend 😆
Came here with a friend for a long overdue catch up, had a lovely corner booth which was comfy and spacious. We were greeted at the door and shown shown to our table, service was great and we weren't at all rushed through our meal. We both had the chicken skewers which were really tasty and came with potato wedges and salad and had the chocolate torte for pud. Would definitely go back (it wasn't our first visit) and recommend. It's not the cheapest for a mid-week tea but plenty of variety on the menu and something a bit different from your usual chain pubs.
