We have only just returned to Australia and would like to say how much we enjoyed our visit to The Old Rectory. It was even better than we had expected. A truly magical place with extremely professional and friendly service from John and Ricky. Excellent food and hospitality, wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed in the rectory retreat which was stylishly decorated and well laid out. It was more expensive than a lot of b&bs but the retreat was a large and spacious apartment with good quality fixtures and fittings; and the location is amazing. We chose to have dinner at the Rectory and this was super, as were the breakfasts. Overall... More

We went to the old rectory on the lake because of the reviews we looked at on 'tripadvisor' and we certainly were not disappointed. The perfect hideaway, regardless of the weather and Ricky's food is superb and John is a gentleman. Thank you, can't wait to come again.

The old rectory on the lake lived up to all our expectations and the online photos definitely did not lie. The location of the rectory is superb. The scenery was nothing short of stunning even in the heavy cloud and drizzle of last weekend. Whenever you chose to visit and whatever the weather you will not be disappointed. This is our 3rd visit to the blissful Snowdonia retreat, and as with our two previous visits, we had a thoroughly relaxing and comfortable stay. We stayed in the Rectory Retreat, which was very well-appointed and comfortable. Great views over the lake from our front door, and even better ones from the breakfast room. If you are looking for great food, beautiful scenery and welcoming hosts you can't do better than spend time as we did recently at the Old Rectory on the Lake. An added bonus, served with drinks before dinner, are John's enjoyable and professional videos of the lake and its habitat during all seasons. We shall return!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
