We have spent the May Day Bank Holiday weekend at the Old Rectory for the last 7 years and have nothing but positive things to say. The tranquil location is superb, both for walking and and also enjoying the stunning views over the lake. The hospitality from John and Ricky is second to none and the food is consistently delicious....

We've just returned from one of the most magical weekends ever! John and Ricky were just wonderful and made us feel so spoilt. We have forged some particularly important memories here (engagement!) The location is just wonderful and even though the weather favoured rain over sunshine the poetry of the backdrop and the elements made it astoundingly beautiful. I cannot...

Many, many congratulations Hannah, you are our second engagement this year and we think that brings the total for the last twelve years to almost twenty! We are so pleased that we were able to contribute to the romance of the weekend - as you might know Ricky is really into his fireworks so he welcomed the excuse to let...

Once again the weather has been perfect as was the whole experience. Great hot tub overlooking the lake, delicious food, great welcome and service. The rooms are just fantastic. Ours looked over the lake. What a lovely way to wake up. Thanks John and Rick. X

Thanks for coming back to stay with us again - it is always fun to host a house party. We really liked the idea that you three sisters decided to have a social night away in lieu of exchanging Christmas presents last year and are flattered that you chose our home as that venue. Happy Christmas! Our kindest regards, John...

Thanks Paul for taking the time to leave this first class review after you came here for an away day on the nearby Talyllyn Railway just down the valley. I am glad you think we are on the right track with what we try and offer here and we intend to carriage on regardless. Thanks so much for choo, choo,...

I always feel that a five star review should be rarely used and only for exceptional experiences. This was exceptional. From the moment of booking I was contacted to see if there was anything I required and I was welcomed to the property by the lovely owners. Nothing was too much trouble and their local knowledge was excellent. My room...

We had a very pleasant stay . Staff are very kind and polite. A must visit location and hotel is superb. Minimum 3 nights recommended. There are many places to walk nearby. Lake view from the hotel is superb. Dinner was excellent. It's quiet and near to woodlands so that you hear nature sounds like water-flow,birds etc., most of the...

My wife and I just back from a lovely couple of days at the Old Rectory in Talyllyn. I've stayed in the area a number of times over three decades, and the Old Rectory without doubt has the prime location in one of the most beautiful and majestic settings in this part of Wales. You could probably while away a...

We are dead cuffed to hear that your train driving experience on The Talyllyn Railway was such a success and that you found our accommodation to be first class and Ricky's hot steaming food was just the ticket. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
