Wanted to avoid the impersonal hotel chains and opt for a unique travel experience. Great choice. Like stepping back in time. Mrs McQuade was most welcoming and helpful and although travelling on my own I felt perfectly at ease. Very homely, with the added bonus of a most tasty breakfast!

Needed somewhere central and well priced and as a bit of a punt, stayed here. It was a very good (luck) decision. The owner was very nice throughout. The room was clean and comfortable. The lounge quirky, but relaxing and breakfast always very good. I would recommend more than most regular hotels and certainly above travelodge type places.

We recently stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel following a wedding in the local area. It was fantastically placed, being only 5 minutes away from the venue. Mrs McQuade is incredibly welcoming and her breakfasts really are as good as the rumours! We had a beautiful room at the front of the house which was very clean with lovely fresh, fluffy...

Our one night stay at Hawthorn House was a delight. From the moment we arrived Mrs. McQuade, the proprietor, was kind and helpful. She made every effort to ensure we had a pleasant stay and did everything possible to make us comfortable. The breakfast was of the original Scottish full breakfast style. Tasty and substantial. We would recommend anyone staying...

Appreciated the warm welcome, comfortable accommodation and victorian charm of the hotel. The much mentioned breakfast fulfilled all expectations. This low budget hotel is never the less good full of character and a really nice alternative for those looking for an alternative to the modern built budget hotels.

Such a warm welcome and comfortable accomodation could not believe the breakfast, spent two nights and was asked what we would like on both days, Was suprised how close town was, 10 mins walk and 20 mins walk to Wicksteed Park where we were going to Classic Car rally. Found Cafe Culture in town, good food and reasonable prices.
