Our family of 7 ate here, the staff were excellent in dealing with all of us. Two problems arose however, one of the starters was Queen Scallops and these were extemely over cooked - appeared to have been cooked and then kept warm under a hot lamp, which baked them, yukk. They did handle it quite well, offering a replacement...

We went for Sunday lunch today and were disappointed. We have enjoyed the Tontine over many years and in that time there have been ups and downs. The transition from McCoy was unexpectedly quite successful and the money spent on the upstairs bar was great and earlier in the year we had a very good meal soon after Provenance inns...

Held a family dinner here to celebrate a birthday - the restaurant were extremely accommodating in the booking and made sure the evening went without a hitch. We had a private room in the conservatory which had a great ambience and seated a party of 16 easily. Food was excellent - and the restaurant management did everything to ensure everyone...

We have known the Tontine for many years although not overly impressed for most of that time. Upon hearing that the establishment had been taken over by Provenance Inns we decided to see if it lived up to the high standards set by the rest of the group. Happily I am able to inform you, dear reader, that it does!...

2 night stay for a mix of business and pleasure in the area. Having been raised in Teeside I have passed this location many times - and this was my first visit. The rooms are very well appointed - albeit a little quirky in places, the bathrooms and facilities absolutely first class and top of the range. Bed very comfortable...

We stayed over for one night on Monday this week. We were welcomed out of the wind and the rain by a friendly, helpful face. We were shown up to room, and had the heating/cooling system explained to us. We had a lovely room (rather loud wallpaper!) with a lovely bathroom with roll top bath and spacious shower cubicle. The...

A newly discovered jewel. Not been to this part of the world before but this hotel makes me want to come back. I had a horrendous journey in the wind and rain and was met by welcoming staff who appreciated that I was too tired to go sit in the restaurant for dinner. He organised my meal from the restaurant...

The Tontine has delightful bedrooms, and very welcoming service ethic from its staff and a good quality Bistro style restaurant. I have no hesitation in recommending staying there based on my November visit.
