Absolutely lovely birthday lunch at the Tontine for my mum - delicious food, well priced, great service - all in all, a really fantastic experience. I had pre-warned the restaurant that we would be there for my mum's birthday and before the bill arrived, the chef sent her a plate of fabulous mini desserts on the house - a perfect... More

We visited The Cleveland Tontine's restaurant after a break of many, many years. It has recently become part of the Providence Inns stable and is on the cusp of some major changes. We hope these will NOT include the service and the meal quality, which were both impeccable - and the menu de jour represented excellent value. The choice was... More

We have eaten twice in the last few weeks. It needs some attention to detail, dead flowers on the table, salt and pepper needed filling, a bit cold and slow service. Food was OK but nothing special, steak was Berni Inn standard, lamb was good, gnocchi a bit undercooked and soggy. Service is a little chaotic, all or nothing, like... More

Stayed here in September for a couple of nights...the food was excellent, service could not be faulted, staff welcoming and friendly. Our room ( Cameron) although at first glance seemed somewhat adjacent to the main road ( we thought the noise would be a problem, though it was not, and we slept very well ) breakfast was of high quality... This is definitely a review of two halves which feels a bit awkward really. We stayed one night with friends, the place has recently changed hands and there has clearly been money spent on it. Hotel: The rooms were amazing, each themed and all different with fantastic and enormous bathrooms. Very good free high-speed Wi-Fi everywhere, free parking and a... More

Things are on the up here. We had a delightful over-night stay in the Gertrude Bell suite and the dinner and breakfast were excellent. The staff are a credit to the new owners, we offered feedback on some fairly minor details and this was received in a very positive manner, always a good sign!

Arrival at the Tontine was warm and friendly by the staff who were attentive. As a group of three we were shown to our table that could only take two in reality meaning it was a tight fit on one side straddling a table leg. requests for additional items such as condiments did not materialise, which is poor for a... I was so excited to return here,it has changed hands again since we last went.It was still very good, but sadly, for me,it just didn't have the wow factor it once had.The room was lovely, but very dark and it didn't help that there were 2 lights out and bulbs had not been replaced. The paintwork in the bathroom had not been cleaned in... What a stay we had, it was the definition of a last minute night away. We saw that they had one room free and were calling straight away. The lady who answered the phone was so polite and we were booked in within a couple of minutes. Bags quickly packed and we were on the way to our adventure. When... More

Has recently been taken over which has led to the prices going up and the standards going down. A group of eight of us went for Sunday lunch. Instead of a pre set menu, all courses are individually priced. My 3 course meal cost £31.85 not including coffee or drinks, (prawn cocktail £8.95, roast pork £15.95 and sticky toffee pudding...
