We had the great fortune of visiting Millgate in early October and the memories of this wonderful weekend have sustained us throughout this second lockdown. Spending time at Millgate is about suspending time, and being cocooned in the total splendour of this beautiful house. Its almost impossible to describe the magic of Millgate. We have been visiting for over 30 years, and its just getter better on every trip. Tim and Austin are the ultimate in hospitality and create an atmosphere which allows total ease in this jaw dropping elegance. Letting go, switching into Millgate mode is effortless but being the scenes Tim and Austin have every little detail in hand and it is sublime. The recent addition of Grand Masters to both drawing room and dining room make perfect companions and become as comfortable as we felt, totally accepted and totally authentic. The multi award winning garden at Millgate is utter joy and allows commoners ( as in the plants) to mix with royalty and rare breeds, all effortlessly blended into a fanfare of joy. It is an all year garden with the most spectacular and impressive collection of snowdrops that bring the winter months to life and inspire you into the forthcoming year. It is a precious jewel all year round and totally unique. Utterly joyful

Thanks to eclectic and elegant furnishings in every room, and thoughtful attention to detail,(we loved Tim's homemade marmalade), Millgate House feels both luxurious and incredibly homely. We thoroughly recommend a stay in this friendly establishment with warm hosts, Austin and Tim....and then there's the view overlooking the garden with the River Swale in the distance. Just lovely.

Two nights stay within the eclectic surroundings of Millgate house and garden was enough to be transported to another world in this time of uncertainty. I have never been made so welcome by hosts. Tim and Austin are so friendly and knowledgeable about their garden and the collections within. It’s so easy to relax and cast off your shoes. The garden is so much more, with so many spaces to take time, reflect, and just let the colours and textures wash over your senses. A garden for all seasons. We are looking forward to experiencing it again and of course, cannot forget those sumptuous breakfasts.

Millgate House is probably the most elegant "b&b" in the UK if not the world. We simply love this place. The garden suite is delightful, the drawing room is stunning, the service warm and personal, the garden is outstanding. We can't recommend more highly.

Once again a very big thank you to all of you who have taken the time to write such positive reviews in the last few days. Gordon of London produced his review before he even left...thank God his breakfast was good on the final morning! "Probably the most elegant...in the world".... so no pressure Gordon!!!! As I keep on quoting ... a professor of marketing who stayed with us recently said..."Two key prongs in marketing...be unique and be the best"....we are trying to achieve both....and it looks like some of our guests agree... We did try to retire after lock down... but the guests won't allow it!!!!! We even tried taking all the TVs to the tip but that didn't work either! So on we go.

We enjoyed a super three night stay at Millgate House, in exquisite surroundings with wonderful views. The breakfast was delightful and relaxing, and we couldn’t have wished for more attentive hosts. The garden is a real treasure too. We look forward to visiting again soon, and would not hesitate to recommend Millgate House to anyone seeking a quiet escape in such an elegant setting.
