I have been going to this hotel for years and stay here whenever I attend events at the nearby Retro Computer Museum in Thurmaston. Ok, so the hotel is on a duel carriageway in the middle of nowhere, so isn't exactly convenient for most people but it suits my needs perfectly. Not only that though; it's always very clean, comfortable, very quiet and extremely cheap. I've paid as little as £25 for a room in the past! If you get a room at the back of the hotel you'll also get some lovely countryside views.
My children and I stayed here for 1 night during a road trip. I was sceptical due to the extremely low price of around £20 for a family room! We got a bit delayed on our journey and a nice lady phoned us to check when we planned to arrive - so we did not get locked out once reception closed. This was very thoughtful. Apparently the reception will not be manned all night in future. When we arrived there was a nice man on reception and he gave us our room key and was helpful. The room was large enough for our needs and the beds were comfy. We all slept well. The electric heater in the room was more than enough to keep things cosy even though it was cold outside. We had to turn it down a little. The bathroom felt clean and the water was hot and the shower had a decent pressure. The decor and fit out was a little tired and dated - with some signs of age and wear here and there - however nothing that would put me off visiting again - and for the price paid it was all more than acceptable. We felt over all that this had been a pleasant and comfy stay in a clean room for an amazingly low price so it was FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY! The Indian restaurant next door is very nice and well worth a visit. They have a small bar area and a couple of lagers on tap which were fresh and tasty.…
This is a room only, former Travelodge on the soutbound carriageway of the busy A46. The safest way to access it from the northbound side is to get off at the next junction, not too far so it's not an issue. Sat nav did offer us gaps in the central barrier designed for farm access but frankly you would be taking you life in your hands to U turn on this busy road. Despite the proximity to the road, we were not disturbed at all by traffic noise. Easy parking. The price was good. We booked a 3 night midweek stay well in advance so paid only 86 quid in total. Very good value. Good points:- Free unlimited WiFi Lashings of hot water Nice towels Clean Nice warm room with controllable heater Really lovely lady on reception Vending machine in foyer for chocolate and drinks Comfortable bed ( very soft mattress, not as good as the modern Travelodge ones, but still very comfortable) Hairdryer in the room Tea and coffee making (and refills available from reception) Views across lovely countryside from the back of the hotel Bad points:- Small TV with poor reception No room cleaning during our stay. Guess its more for overnighters. However the recepionist was more than happy to provide fresh towels, extra pillows, loo roll, etc. Take your own toiletries as only a very small hand soap and a tiny body wash provided. The wall paint was a bit patchy where hasty repairs had been made (if the aesthetics bother you). However the room did look like the promotion pics so has obviously had fairly recent redecoration. Tips:- The receptionist put us in an upstairs room because she said these were quieter (in terms of hearing the guests in the room above if you were downstairs). However there is no lift if you have mobility issues. The Indian restaurant next door ( ex Little Chef) is great. The food is amazing and we loved the live Asian music and the Bollywood TV. Well worth a visit. You dont need to eat , you can just pop in for a beer at the bar. If you don't like Indian food or want a breakfast, try the Hobby Horse pub (just keep going South until the next roundabout). Super carvery :-)…
2 dirty glasses, paint peeling off of the bathroom door floor in bath room screwed to the wall gaps in it. It needs TLC sleep upstairs i was woken every hr by the ppl upstairs walking across the bedroom floor
Awful hotel. Man on reception was rude and not professional, my room was cold, mould in bathroom and bedding was dirty with hair in it. Got moved to different room but I was the same...so I couldn't stay in that hotel because of this. Now I'm trying to get a refund as this was not my fault and they won't give me one. I'm not happy at all.
