Where do I start? This house is up a Lane but your sat nav will find it. First impressions aren’t great. Scruffy exterior - nothing that couldn’t be tidied up on a day with a bit of hard work. Windows are filthy, old car plonked to one side, cobwebs and general grime. Needs a good clean. On opening porch door I was greeted by the most threadbare carpet I’ve ever seen. To be honest this really was a shock. Not what you expect for a property that is supposed to be 3*. Above the second door the ceiling panel has been removed to expose the fuse box and other power sources. Peculiar. Margaret’s daughter greeted us. A really lovely young lady. She was so smiley and welcoming. Bless her, she had been left to sort guests out and wasn’t sure where we would be staying. When she sorted it out we had the room where the key had been taken home by a previous guest apparently. You would think they would have a few sets of keys for each room. No. We couldn’t be given a key so every time we went out we had to ring doorbell to get back in and the owners had to come upstairs to open our room door. Far from ideal. Getting another key cut should’ve been a priority but obviously it wasn’t. Once you enter the house there is a big stairway that splits onto the landing to go all the rooms. I have never heard stairs creak like these! Scruffy is the only word I can use - again - to describe the interior. Old burgundy carpet and old furniture. Cobwebs on windows. Paintwork scuffed and chipped. Old empty cabinets and tatty dusty vases. We were shown a twin room first. This gave us a taste of what to expect in our room. The 2 headboards in here are old and faded. There is a small lump out of the wall behind the beds. Our room was a double. Adequate size, huge bathroom with only a bath. No shower. It was clean but again, really old and shabby. The carpet had stains and bleach marks. The grey rug was so old and worn. The furniture is really old. Bedlinen was clean and bed was reasonably comfy. The wardrobe door barely opened as it got stuck on the carpet! Good TV and plenty of channels. We unpacked and went out for dinner. When we came back Margaret (the owner) had to open the door for us and our room door. She is very chatty and welcoming but what a complete pain for everyone concerned. Our room was very quiet at night which was good. There was plenty of hot water for baths. Pillows are feather which I find a bit uncomfortable but that’s just personable choice. We were able to say when we wanted breakfast. We ate at 9.30. The full English breakfast was lovely. Lots of toast and tea. Other people had cereals too. The area you eat in is literally at the bottom of the stairs. They’ve hung the most awful badly fitting curtains over their private door and around another doorway. Just take these down! We paid £150 per night for this B&B. It is overpriced for such a tatty place. I appreciate Covid has really affected the hospitality sector but cleaning and tidying costs nothing. This whole house needs decorating, even a coat of paint in the rooms would help. It looks like it hasn’t been touched for years and years. We have stayed in a few B&Bs and paid this price for far superior accommodation. It’s a shame as the welcoming hospitality is lovely. We weren’t rushed out on the day we left so that was great.

So I turned up to meet a lady by the name of margret she seemed nice and helpful First thing she told me was that the young couple in the other room had lost there keys and that they were going to get charged 200 Alarm bells Went and had dinner at the pub around the corner and was lovely Came back had shower door would not close I went to bed and the back surround was loose and not connected to bed I rang her and asked if I could change rooms she said no and That it would cost me more money and put pillows behind to stop bed hitting wall Got up for breakfast to find a lovely couple and started to talk to them they told me she had said they had to pay 200 and were scared as they did not have a car I said I would give lift Please don’t stay here no safety info re fire etc no safety lights no arrows to where to go nothing And this is not a 3 star more like -1 Please please avoid this place

We were lucky to find this place at the last minute on a very busy weekend in Whitstable. The owner Margaret was straight forward and accommodated our late arrival, she is an excellent host and made us feel at home! Full English breakfast outside in her front garden set us up perfectly for our trip to Canterbury.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westgrange House. The location is fantastic. Beautiful countryside all around. Margaret made us feel extremely welcome and was very accomodating regarding our dog. We will book with Margaret anytime we need accomodation in the area.

Stayed here for 1 night to visit nearby Whitstable and Broadstairs. Host Margaret was excellent, very accommodating and gave us choice of rooms. Accommodation itself was very lovely, neat, clean and spacious. Room has kettle, some biscuits and tea / coffee and a nice Tele. Parking right in front of the property. Finally an excellent English breakfast to start the day off. Highly recommended.
