Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Holiday Inn Express London - Stansted Airport garners appreciation for its range of convenient amenities, such as the praised shuttle service and varied breakfast options, though guests miss 24-hour food options and EV charging. Service is generally commended for being friendly and efficient, albeit with some reports of inconsistency. While many guests enjoy clean and comfortable rooms, others encounter outdated or poorly maintained spaces with noise issues.
Cleanliness shines in many reviews, particularly the spotless rooms and bathrooms. However, the value perception is affected by additional charges for shuttles and parking. The hotel's atmosphere, with its modern reception and great pool table area, is frequently applauded.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel does not pretend to be something it is not: you get a decent (ish) room with parking at a decent (ish) price.
Breakfast is plentiful but get there early while its fresh !
Yes this hotel is not Great, but it is on most part clean ( our second room was) comfortable (once we had changed rooms) and convenient.
One note: some of the team here need some basic Customer Service Skills Training..it is a "Hospitality" business after all.
I would not stay here for more than one night....

Comfortable room and friendly staff. Breakfast was sufficient and all you can eat.
Car parking had plenty of spaces and I felt safe leaving my car there whilst overseas.
Shuttle bus was fairly frequent (every 30 minutes) but there is a fee to use.
I would stay here again.

When we arrived there were cars parked everywhere. We were lucky and we did find a parking space which was lucky for us as we were flying out that morning so we would not have been able to move it later on in the day. We stayed the night we returned. Our room was ok but there was a bed settee made up so our space was limited. As it was late I could not be bothered to complain. Breakfast was ok especially for the price we paid. I would not risk staying here again because of the parking issue especially now I have read other reviews where people could not get parked in the designated parking area.

Hotel's Favourite
We came to this hotel just for one night, but it did not disappoint, the room was extremely modern, clean and comfortable. Everything you could need a night before a flight. Breakfast was included and was lovely and fresh, there was lots of selection and could not have asked for anything more.

We stayed in a family room for one night before catching a flight the next day, all I can say is I wish we had paid extra to stay elsewhere, as when you have paid the £4 each way on the shuttle for your group members it doesn’t work out much difference in price anyway.
Check in was quick and efficient and the receptionist was nice and polite, we went off to our room and had to swipe key card to get in the lift which I have never experienced before, it made me think it wasn’t a very safe area.
When going into our room firstly, we was quite surprised in how small it was for a family room, secondly we was hit by the heat in the room as, like many other reviews have said the air conditioning was not working and thirdly when looking out the window which was at the back of the hotel to see if it could be opened, there was little spiders everywhere, which was right next to and running over my daughters single sofa bed.
The whole room had a dirty grubby feel to it and I cleaned everything with antibacterial wipes, the two (suppose to be a family room) cups and spoons and the tea bag seals was open and there was dirty socks on the floor.
You could not get a phone signal at all in the room and the WiFi, once eventually connected was absolutely useless.
The worst part of staying in this place was being woken abruptly at 1am by someone trying to access our room, luckily my partner had put the bar across and double locked the door, an hour later the same thing happened again, my partner shouted through the door and looked through the spy hole and it was another man with a different description of the one I’d previously seen. My 14 year was extremely upset over this and was worried about someone trying to get in when we flew to our holiday destination. When I went down to breakfast I approached the receptionist about the incident, but my complaint was not followed up with me.
One positive was the included breakfast which was ok and staff in the restaurant very pleasant, choices available was sausage, scrambled egg, bacon, cereals, toast, yoghurts hot and cold drinks so something for everyone.
Needless to say I do not recommend this hotel to anyone and will never return again.

I had to stay at this hotel as an essential worker from 27th May to the 29th May 2020.
First room I was given had no air conditioning, room temp was 27 degrees. The toilet was not working. The shower was missing it's shower head. Overall the bathroom looked unclean. On reporting these issues to reception, a staff member moved me to a different room. This room still had no air conditioning but the gentleman provided me with a fan. This room had a musty unhygienic smell as the room had no ventilation. As an essential worker my sleep was impacted. Breakfast due to restrictions was a take away but consisted of an unappealing apple, OJ and edible pastries. This property reflects badly on iHG group as it is of a very poor standard. it requires huge refurbishment . The building supplies/materials in the car par across from the main entrance of the hotel give a bad first impression. The staff were very helpful with any issues brought to their attention. However responsibility rests with the owners of this hotel for opening a hotel to guests which is not fit for purpose.

My daughter is flying out to Madrid to live so in order to make connections I stupidly booked her a room here as a farewell gift. She would have had a better more hygienic nights sleep had she slept in the airport even during a pandemic!
Awful dirty room, coffee stains and dubious stains of unknown origin up the walls. Toilet cistern lid on the floor and the ball cock help together with sticky tape!
Just so poor, reminded me why we stopped using your hotels.

We booked this hotel to stay as we had an early flight the next day, but unfortunately it was not a great experience. We booked a family room for 3 adults, when we got to the room, not only had the sofa bed not been made up, there was no bedding and no towels for a 3rd person. We called to reception and they said to go down and they would get someone to sort it out. We went down and got told by someone else that there was no-one to do it, but when a colleague came back they would take sheets up for us to make it ourselves! It was this or we could move rooms, so why not put us in one that was made up in the first place knowing we were 3 adults. The food in the restaurant was only pizza, which was no good as one of our party has a dairy intolerance, luckily there is a BP garage with an M&S, and a McDonald's to grab some food and drink just across the way. The hotel does not seem to have an issue with you taking it back to your room, lots of people seemed to be doing this option. Getting up the next morning, the only way to have the light on in the bathroom was to have the lights on in the room as well! They were really bight, so not ideal for people still trying to get a little extra sleep at 2am! Toilet flush was also really bad. All in all, not a great experience and we definitely would not stay again.

I’ve stayed at excellent Holiday Inns in Europe, the US and Asia - but this one was an incredible disappointment. Had booked a 6hrs day use for a travel stopover (reasonable price at 50£ plus 6$ £ shuttle, smooth booking). My room had 13(!) degree celsius temperature (and 17 after 4hrs of max. heating - but then my stay was almost over). No soap in the bathroom (empty soap holder broken), toilet not properly cleaned, wall next to bed requires renovation (see picture). Couldn’t sleep (the purpose of the stopover booking) as it was too cold and the old heating on max. power much too loud. Bad experience at all levels. My own mistake was that I should have complained right after check-in and ask for a new room (..I had falsely assumed the heating would work faster..). Couldn’t have imagined such a poor quality at Holiday Inn & IHG “Rewards”.

Location of this hotel is great being so close to the airport but that's about all it has going for it. We were a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) in a family room which is just a regular sized room with a double sofa bed crammed in - no spare space to move once it's made up! The worst thing was the air con didn't do anything other than blow hot air round the room and there are no windows that can be opened so it was so stuffy with the 4 of us in there. The kids didn't want to share the sofa bed as it was tiny so we got another duvet and one of them slept on the floor just outside the bathroom! I had the worst night's sleep ever with not being able to breathe and it being so hot! We ate in the restaurant which was OK but quite pricey for what it was. You could head just across the road for a meal from a well known burger joint if you prefer. There was a bus to transfer you to the airport but it has a £4 per person charge so ended up being quite pricey for the 4 of us for a 10 minute journey! Breakfast was a positive point - included in your stay and a reasonable choice of food, cooked and cold and good coffee. However due to the terrible night's sleep I would never stay here again!
