Travellers' Choice
The Grosvenor is a large and imposing listed Georgian hotel in the centre of Stockbridge High Street. Named after a local landowner, it was built in the early C19th when it incorporated the town’s market hall, still known as Market Room. The hotel’s history is inextricably linked with the Stockbridge Races, discontinued since 1898, but held every summer on nearby Danebury Hill. The Houghton Club, the world’s oldest fly fishing club, is based at the Grosvenor. Keep checking in! We share a grand vision for this iconic lodging, situated in the heart of Stockbridge. We will be undertaking an extensive remodelling over the next few months. The hotel will be open during this time, offering a warm welcome, crisp sheets and fluffy towels. In the meantime Chef, Neil Cooper has created a small and exquisite menu to satisfy all tastes. We will create a beautiful space in which to stay, dine, relax and celebrate.

The Hotel has had a fantastic refurb literally a different place, however at a recent breakfast all poached eggs were hard boiled and sat on a rather stingy piece toast, for £11 clearly disappointing. Simple things.

The garden is lovely and we enjoyed our drinks out there. The food was ok although some portion sizes were very small for the cost (lamb). Staff were very friendly but service was not great. Overall I was a bit disappointed for the cost and won’t be rushing back for dinner but wouldn’t hesitate to have drinks in the garden.

We’re quite local so know the place well. We were so pleased to hear all the changes planned for the Grosvenor, however, the results are disappointing. Yes it looks nicer, but the service is the same sloppy service it always was and even management don’t seem to be able to run things. There’s no sense of individuality or passion in the place, it just feels that some money has been thrown at it to make it look nicer, and that should be enough by to get the money rolling in. Prices are daylight robbery and they must wear the crown for being the most expensive place in Stockbridge for drinks. Almost £6 a pint! We felt like we were sat in a backwater of a place on a Monday evening, but it was actually a Saturday evening. I don’t know what they’re doing wrong but the other places we went to in Stockbridge were bustling and welcoming.

We stayed overnight at this lovely hotel, staff fabulous, dinner and breakfast lovely, however I would expect more for the money we paid for the room. £250 is over the top for room size and features. At very least would have thought dressing gowns, slippers for example should have been provided. Either that or bring the prices down, I will not stay again at that price!
