Our popular guest accommodation enjoys a wonderful location in the idyllic Hampshire countryside. The Angel is situated on the Alton to Gosport Road (A32) being approximately 6 miles from Alton and 6 miles from Petersfield and dare we say it approximately 200 miles from the other Alton that is the home of Alton Towers! We are also within easy reach of the towns of Winchester with its 11th Century Cathedral (and incidentally the longest cathedral in Europe), Basingstoke renowned for its shopping centre and of course we are ideally situated for Portsmouth and Southampton with their regular ferry transport links to Europe. Locally the attractions include the Jane Austen’s House at Chawton, the Watercress Steam Railway at Alton, the Curtis Museum in Alton, Gilbert White’s House at Selborne and St Lawrence’s Church Alton.

What can I say about the lovely Angel Hotel. My partner and I were meant to be going to the New Forest to stay for the weekend of the 1st of February. Unfortunately, due to the snowy weather we were stranded and needed somewhere to stay at very short notice (after having been

We were seated away from other diners. The room was very cold and my wife had to put her coat back on. We never had any coffee offered to us after our meal. No Christmas cheer in the place. The meal was ok.

Stayed at the Angel as we were visiting family in the area. All the staff are extremely helpful and could do no more. Our room was lovely, with a comfy hypnos mattress :) we also had a shower and bath which is surprising for hotels these days. Evening food was really tasty, I

I found myself coming across the angel pub with my sister and my dog for a pint, walked in to a quiet unwelcoming atmosphere. Was greeted by a old man clearly with a chip on his shoulder, who asked us to move the dog away from the bar. He then refused to serve us until we did, he

Response from Avtar S, Manager at The Angel Hotel
Responded 16 Nov 2018
Thank you Laura B for taking the time to share your comments regarding your recent visit to the bar at The Angel Hotel with the TripAdvisor community. I have thought long and hard how to address this review and I feel it best to put forward the points of view of both parties and let the impartial TripAdvisor community decide. Your point of view is represented by your review. Our perspective is that two young ladies entered the public bar with a large dog that was neither on a leash nor under the direct control of either of them. This was apparent because after seating yourselves at the bar your dog was able to stand on its hind legs with its front paws on the main bar not once but three times. Furthermore, you allowed your dog to lick the service area of the bar. There was no admonition or effort from you to stop this unhygienic behaviour. On the contrary this behaviour seemed to amuse you. You were then politely asked to stop your dog from doing this which elicited a verbal response from you which meant that the person who was preparing to serve you felt unable to do so. Instead he went to find the bar manager, who may have possibly been prepared to serve you -hardly the actions of someone with " a chip on his shoulder" However, you took this opportunity to leave the bar. The CCTV focused on the bar area endorses our perspective of the events. Here at The Angel we will continue to welcome patrons with their dogs into the bar area who are able to control their pets and are able to respect hotel property and the wishes of the people around them. If you feel able to do this in the future we would not hesitate to welcome you back.
