Had an evening meal for five. Lovely staff.Food OK. Took 3 trips to serve the food so first two diners sit and watch their food get cold. Try and co ordinate so all the food is delivered to the table in one go. Staff stacking clean table cloths next to our table .Setting up for breakfast? Ruins the ambience of...

I needed a place to stay in Mayfield close to a local event. I had heard good things about this place but not previously visited. It's a little gem. Lovely location. Beautiful 16th century building, tastefully updated. Very comfy bed and good bathroom. The bar retains the feel of a traditional English pub whilst the food in both the bar...

Never had a bad meal here, from the burger to the chicken Caesar salad all is amazing, have always eaten in the pub but have been assured that the restaurant food is also amazing. Friendly staff who are always happy to help as well!

There was 6 of us and we had a marvellous meal. We all had different things and all served with a smile . The food was very good quality. The staff was helpful and friendly. Cannot find any fault. The surrounding area was also very picturesque.

Spent 2 nights here whilst staying in the area on business. This is not the sort of hotel to stay in if you like modern characterless hotels. This is charming 16th century - quaint with dark old panels and beams, 4 poster wonderfully comfy beds and creaky, uneven floors. Yes, the water pressure in room 3 was quite poor if...

We have eaten here several times and the food and service has been great. For a valentines treat we decided to stay overnight. We had room 5 The large four poster bed was very comfortable, the radiator was inefficient as was the shower which had no pressure at all. No toilet roll holder and office type ceiling in in the...

Possibly the best plate of mixed roast meats I have ever had! Add dauphinoise potatoes and a velvety Merlot and you have the perfect meal. Busy Monday night carvery but staff efficient and friendly. A thoroughly enjoyable evening which I could recommend to anyone!

This is a true diamond hidden in the rough. Not overly priced yet the food was somewhat better than some of the best resteraunts I've been to in London. Beautifully presented food and great staff in a very homely and tranquil pub. Ordered the duck with roasted veg, sublime. Tender yet tasty with a beautiful sweet sauce and ended up...

We ate in the restaurant ----yummy food----- and then stayed overnight in room 5. A large four-poster, creaky, uneven floorboards... a wonderful experience. In the morning, after a great night's sleep, we ate a tasty, hearty breakfast and set off for home. We'll stay again!

This pub/hotel is amazing for quality of food. We have visited this pub & restaurant at least 10 times over 12 years, and never had a bad meal. Staff are great and chatty, there is a great old feel and atmosphere to the pub, keep it going middle house.
