The feel and appearance of the Orwell Hotel is late Victorian and it is very tired. The room was not over hot as the windows opened fully if required. A major plus was that the room came with a bath that was good and deep and not the modern shower only. The food for dinner was average at best, although...

Celebrated mums 80th birthday with 30 family and friends. Cream tea was excellent. No problem catering for diary free either. Everyone impressed with the choice of sandwiches and cakes. Reception were excellent, made sure everything was ok. Mum had a wonderful afternoon and is looking forward to the girls lunch in May. They will only go to the Orwell as...

My wife and I were given a voucher for an afternoon tea at this hotel, and were very disappointed. the sandwiches were O.K. on the bottom tier, but on the second tier were 4 FRUIT SCONES! 2 were O.K. the other 2 were very much over baked and covered with icing sugar to try to hide it! The top tier...

Went for the upgraded hotel room, which at only £20 more was outstanding. The room was clean, tidy, modern and spacious, with a really nice bathroom and shower. The hotel is a really stylish place, with lots of character. The food package was really reasonable and although the menu did not change much each day, the food was of a...

The Room was lovely the service fantastic and the breakfast superb. we are returning on the 30th of same...

The breakfast was lovely, as was the dining room. The whole building was very clean and tidy, also the staff were friendly and attentive. We had a lovely stay...

The hotel is very nicely situated, very close to the railway station and very close to the town centre. We have stayed at the Orwell Hotel on a number of occasions over the years and have found very little changes on our return visits. The Hotel is quite dated and seems to have quite a high turn over of staff,...

How do you compare hotels? This is not a 4* as a big Hilton or Hyatt would be 4*. But for friendly local hotels that offer comfortable accommodation, friendly service and good food its' right up there. Check-in experience was very smooth but expect to pay for your accommodation on arrival not departure. Dinner menu had plenty of choices and...
