It was a privilege to stay at Mayfair Himalayan Spa resort, Kalimpong. We booked two rooms at Vicky's cottage. It was over a hundred years old but still had all the modern amenities like electric kettles, room heaters, hair dryers, etc. The bathrooms are as plush as the rooms - the bath tub is big enough for tall people. We went in early Feb in the middle of winter while it was 2 degree Celsius outside. However, the rooms are well insulated and the room heaters work wonders - we barely needed warm clothes indoors. As for the amenities, they're just world-class. There's temperature controlled pool, gym, games room with air hockey, pool table, fussball, etc. We'd breakfast at Tiffany's, how appropriate. There's also a bakery, and various other places to take a bite. My favourite place was the library in the evening. It has an impressive collection of books, from classics to contemporary. The chairs and sofas beckon extending hours of reading. The lawn (overlooking Tiffany) is breathtaking and has a glass igloo too. The spa service is noteworthy. Another thing to note is a Shiva temple near Vicky and Vera's cottage which creates a spiritual vibe to this place overlooking the mighty Kanchenjunga. There's just so much to do at the hotel itself that it might take a couple of days, or more, to explore all of it. The food lives up to the five star quality of everything else in the hotel. Every corner of the hotel is exquisitely decorated and furnished. We reached the hotel late in the afternoon and went to the main market, which is just ten minutes walk down the road. On coming back we borrowed some DVDs from the reception and had dinner while watching a movie. The best thing about the hotel is the behaviour of the staff. Everyone is very helpful and welcoming. This is a legendary hotel which was first set up to cater to the Everest climbers of the early twentieth century. It has hosted the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Richard Gere, Cindy Crawford, Sunil Dutt and many more. I am grateful to have stayed here. I wish to visit it again.…
