Just happened to find this place by chance, what an amazing stay it was! Really enjoyed the beautiful décor, the amazing clocks, the wonderful hosts, big tasty breakfast and not to mention the most loving dog.. bed was so comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and I cant wait to come back again...
Great location, charming atmosphere and superior service! We had a wonderful stay in the carriage house. It has a separate bedroom with French doors, large sitting room and small dining area, with sink, mini fridge and microwave oven. The sitting room also has a small bed. The bathroom has a walk in shower. The rooms are up a narrow flight of steps on the second floor of the carriage house. Plenty of windows and two small porches. Breakfast is in the main house in a beautiful dining room. Everything you would expect in an old, old Victorian. Lots of overstuffed furniture, plenty of knickknacks, and many interesting clocks. We looked at the bedrooms in the main house and they appeared comfortable and cozy. Don’t expect the crispness of a purpose built hotel. This is a home. The inn is conveniently located in town and you can walk everywhere. Being a college town, there is plenty to see and do. This inn has so much to recommend it. Best of all is the terrific service. Rodger is very attentive and helpful, as well as a great chef! Breakfasts are a feast! If you ask, Rodger will share with you information about the town, the home’s history and prior residents. This is the place to stay in Delaware.…
We loved the carriage house accommodations! There was a lovely skylight directly above the king sized bed, through which we could see the constellation Orion as we went to sleep. The living room had a couple of lovely huge overstuffed chairs, and a huge comfy sofa. There was a nice glass dining table in the kitchen nook with refrigerator and Keurig. The only things missing to make it the perfect room, was a gas fireplace and had I brought my own half and half for my morning coffee. Roger made a delicious breakfast at the time we chose, and it was served in the main house dining room. We will definitely stay here again.
The reviews and photos we found of the Winter Street Inn were all good (if a bit dated), and we enjoy visiting bed and breakfast establishments, so we booked it for the Ironman 70.3 weekend. It’s conveniently located near Delaware’s quaint downtown and also a quick drive from the race’s Ironman Village. The inn looks inviting from the street, with nice signage and perennial gardens. Once inside, though, we found the home to be cluttered and, unfortunately, not very clean. Photos we took show clutter, mold in the (very small) shower, dirty hardwood floors and a beach towel on the floor at the exit (which remained there, unexplained, during our stay). The final photo shows the sink in the Humphries room, which is a very small powder room sink adjacent to the bed. The inn has multiple chiming clocks and cuckoo clocks which mark every half hour. Fortunately our room had a fan, which we used for white noise. The owner, Rodger, was polite upon our arrival and showed us to our room; we did not see him thereafter. Unlike most B&Bs we’ve visited, there were no niceties...no toiletries, the hair dryer had no heat, no happy hour glass of wine, no in-room television, etc. In comparison, we stay at a B&B each year for an Ironman in Southwest Michigan where the host has all of these things and provides serve-yourself hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice and coffee early in the morning for the racers. The Winter Street Inn was more akin to using a family member's spare bedroom, though they do offer breakfast later in the morning...which no one was able to sample since all guests were there for Ironman. With some significant changes, this could be a lovely venue, but sadly we can’t say it is at the present time.…
My husband and I decided to stay at the Winter Street Inn because we attended the Little Brown Jug at the fair. The Inn is only about 1 mile away, so we were able to walk to the fair. It's also only about 5 blocks from the business district so we were able to walk to shops and restaurants. (And across the street from Ohio Wesleyan U.) The Inn is beautifully appointed, and extremely comfortable. We slept great! The innkeeper, Rodger, is very welcoming and friendly. And his breakfasts are delicious! If we ever return to Delaware, OH, we will stay there.
