Welcome to one of Columbus' oldest surviving hotels! Built atop a plot of land dating back to the birth of the city in 1800, the history of our hotel follows closely the transformation of Columbus, Ohio, from a sleepy pioneer town inhabited by the peace-loving Wyandot Indians and our nation's earliest settlers into today's sprawling urban conurbation and capital of our state. Built in 1911, our building has always been one of stark contrasts. Ostensibly constructed as a dry goods store, the United States Government secretly commissioned the building as a clandestine producer of uniforms and helmets in anticipation of World War I. It was around this time that the lower level of the lobby became a factory for the Wolfe Brothers' successful shoe business. Meanwhile, thousands of prison inmates from the nearby Ohio State Penitentiary were forced into unsafe and unsanitary forced labor, transported at gunpoint down an elaborate network of tunnels connecting the prison to industrial plants around the city. The remnants of this tunnel still survive today, entombed beneath the first floor bedrooms, used as storage for maintenance and housekeeping supplies. From 1954, Gene Schiller purchased the dry goods store and transformed it into a hotel, which he named "The Victorian Inn" after his daughter, Victoria, who had recently passed away. After later losing his beloved wife, Schiller committed suicide, whereupon the hotel was acquired by a bank and renamed "The Emory Inn". In 1985, the "Emory Inn" was purchased by the Best Western Company who later rebranded as a Courtyard by Marriott. All historical features and furnishings have been preserved where possible We hope you enjoy your stay with us here at the Historic Courtyard by Marriott Columbus Downtown!

Lauren, at the front desk, was fantastic!! Hotel is one block from riverfront park (great for walks and picnics), one block from Nationwide Arena and there are restaurants all around. Also, easy self-parking right there. Good open lobby spaces inside and outside (on their second-floor patio) to sit and talk. Always seemed to be someone in the lobby cleaning: wiping down surfaces, sanitizing...this hotel was super clean. Rooms all had mini-fridge and seemed bigger than typical Courtyard-brand rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

I was there for a leisure trip & came way early to checkin. Hannah was very nice to accommodate me & gave suggestions to local restaurants with timings. The hotel pool can be accessed via front desk with prior reservations, everyone was nice and warm.

The staff there is friendly and the hotel is clean, otherwise this would be a 1 star review. I have stayed there several times, and while it has always been overpriced, but ok, this visit was unacceptable to me. My 2 room, guaranteed reservation by credit card, was not honored, and my colleague was sent to a Red Roof Inn as the hotel was "overbooked". So be aware guaranteed may still mean you do not have a room there. The onsite restaurant was out of menu items both for dinner and breakfast, with the staff saying they did not order enough. My room this time was tiny and cramped, but they do have larger rooms. Still, I paid the same for this tiny room with a sink right at the door that had no counter space. It also has stairs up to the elevators, so be aware of that as there is no elevator there. I feel this property is overpriced, and you are required to valet park for $28 per day. I am very disheartened by this experience and no one from hotel management ever contacted myself or my colleague to explain why they did not have a room that they would have gladly charged my credit card for if we were a no show.

The staff is friendly and attentive. The rooms are large and comfortable. The breakfast options are very limited - the hot breakfast options are disappointing. The parking is valet only (no self park) for $28.

The room itself was good and the staff was very nice. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there's no handicap ramp. So the elevator went out of service and we had to carry everything off the cart down the stairs. More importantly those who may have been wheelchair bound would have to be carried up and down the steps. The staff was accommodating because of this issue. Parking is either pay for street parking and have to move it in the morning or valet parking. Either way you pay. Not the most favorable parking depending on your circumstances. Valet wasn't always available when we tried to retrieve our vehicle.

Thank you for staying at the Courtyard Columbus Downtown and thank you for your review. I apologize no one mentioned our ADA lift to you. It's in the corner of the lobby and is available for people who are handicapped as well as anyone else who may have a lot of luggage. Additionally, I'm sorry to hear valet wasn't always available when you tried to retrieve your car. I will pass that along to their company so they can use this as a learning tool for their team. Hope to see you on your next trip to Columbus.
