    Castaways Resort & Spa offers a wide range of accommodation, with 48 luxury beachfront rooms and self-contained apartments, a private beachside villa and 18 lush rainforest rooms, spread over two centrally-located properties. All rooms located within our beachfront property other than the hotel rooms, feature a private balcony or garden patio with stunning views out to the Coral Sea and Dunk Island. Our beachfront hotel rooms feature a full length windows with views of the beautiful beachfront. All rooms located within our rainforest property are surrounded by our lush rainforest gardens, providing wonderful serenity and privacy. All guests have access to all of our facilities, including our 25m lap pool, beachfront leisure pool, rainforest lagoon pool, gym, laundry, Drift Day Spa and Bibesia Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, which is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wifi is free and accessible throughout the resort and all parking is off-the-road and complimentary.

    Choosing the right room type is important at this venue. Fortunately the website gives detailed layouts and we had a great time. Being on the ground floor made it easy to sit and watch the kids play on the grass or even a bit further. The view was beautiful and it is a very easy spot to relax with family and friends.…

    Two castaway hotels, one management.
    Unfortunately they do not properly disclose that there are two separate hotel properties, the 4 star ocean front resort and the old beat up motel-like building down the road. We were very disappointed to arrive at the check-in of this beautiful resort only to be told to keep our bags in the car, drive around the corner and park on the front lawn of what looks like a run-down abandoned motel. Unfortunately they were sold out at the resort and we were forced into a one night stay at the beat up motel. Though they give access to the amenities of the resort (5 min walk), it’s quite depressing to go back to the slums at the end of the day. When we arrived at the “rainforest” building, we found the old reception closed off with a “private” sign, we spent a good 5 min trying to squeeze between cars on the dirt/grass lawn with no lighting. When entering the room the smell of must was overwhelming and we quickly discovered a bad ant infestation (huge ants) throughout the bathroom. The swimming pool onsite looked more of an old pond and I seriously question its cleanliness. The staff have no presence on this property other than sending over cleaners at the end of the stay. It was truly an awful experience. They need to separate these two properties as one will inevitably drag down the other. It would take a lot to renovate this building and bring it to par with the resort and even so, the location is too far and too different to try to slap on a fun name and pretend it’s something else (there is no nature or “rainforest” of any kind around this building.     Like being in a Tropical Island
    Our first time at Mission Beach and we had a most enjoyable 3 night stay here in a very nice room on the 3rd floor, overlooking the pool. A really lovely spot and we felt like we were on a tropical island. Very pleasant staff. Beautiful pools and we enjoyed our daily swims. Fantastic beach to walk along - pity we felt we couldn't venture into the sea with no patrol in the area. Really nice complimentary continental breakfast with plenty of selection and totally adequate. We didn't try the cooked breakfast but it looked equally nice. A short walk into the township either along the road or the beach pathway - nice eating places. We would highly recommend and would be very happy to stay here again.…

    My reservation was canceled
    Booked 7 nights via flight centre received confirmation, traveled adelaide to cairns then drove 2hrs (due to roadworks)south to mission beach. Had a coffee in mission village before checking in. The Receptionist Rhiennon at Castaways was courteous but advised our booking was cncld, and did not understand why, it also just happened to be a Red Bull Defiance event on in two days during our 7 night stay that we had no knowledge about. I wont go into lengthy details except to explain that Reihannon spoke to the Mngr gave us two comp drinks while waiting then instead of the Manager speaking to us Reihannon explained that bookings were shuffled to accommodate us and even another reservation was downgraded so we could have the room type we booked (Very unprofessional to advise a guest this) Reihannon also explained that my original reservation was confirmed but then cncld as I upgraded my room type. I advised that I had paid for the reservation received confirmation and that Castaways obviously received payment. Reihannon was pleased to advise that the Mngr had given us $100 credit to spend on food & beverage. I can honestly say this welcome left us a very bitter taste to what should have been a relaxing holiday. I can also advise that if the Manager came and spoke to us instead of Reihannon it would have gone a long way in smoothing their error over instead of just a credit a very insincere approach. After the Red Bull event on the wknd we managed to relax a bit. The staff overall in the bar and restaurant are very nice however the food in the restaurant is overpriced and without flavour, the Chef should take lessons from Miks cafe just down the road a lively Irish couple whose food is full of flavour. Castaways will be expanding soon I hope they can cope. Castaways is ok for young families with toddlers or for retirees the location is great on the beach and you definitely need a car to do things. We filled in a feedback form on checkout with no response.…

    I booked online after reading the reviews and saw the pics. The room was above expectations, online photos didn't do it justice. Castaways is also in an excellent location. I have driven past the mission beach turn off on multiple occasions which was a mistake. Absolutely glorious location I wont be making that mistake again.…

    Has anyone driven back to Castaways from Paronella Park after doing the night tour? Just wondering what the drive is like at night, or if we would be better staying the night at Mena Creek.
    I've driven back to Mission Beach after the night tour at Paronella Park and it has been no problem at all. Just take it slow on the back road bends and you won't have a worry - it's about a 30-40 minute drive to Castaways from Paronella.

    Please could you let me know what time is the earliest check in. i was planning on getting the 8.15am Greyhound from Carins which I understand gets to Mission Beach at 10.30am. Thanks for your assistance.
    Apologies, much too in response to this question, however the same answer still applies - our earliest guaranteed check in time is 2pm. However if on the day a room should be ready earlier, guests are more than welcome to check in prior to 2pm at no additional cost. If you are able to advise our reservations team of your anticipated early arrival, then we will do our best to be able to accommodate this.

    What is the best/ cost effective way to get from Cairns airport to the resort? Is the mini bar stocked each day?
    Dear Jan, You have a number of options, 1) Hire car, if you just want to drive down and drop your car off we recommend, Surgarland Car Hire they have offices in Cairns and Mission Beach. 2) we offer a transfer service from Cairns Airport and return.3) Greyhound have 3 stop here in Mission Beach each day, we can pick you up from the bus stop. Unfortunately we do not have Mini Bars in our rooms, however you can pre purchase items from the bar and store them in the fridge in your room I hope this was helpful, please contact the resort on 07 40687444 if you would like further assistance
