On the way back from Cooktown at a small junction we saw a signpost of this beautiful lodge and we decided to find out if it is as special as the signpost suggests.. Surely enough at the end of the track leading to a former mine we found this fantastic lodge nestled in amazing surroundings! Hamisch and Isabella are excellent... More

Wonderful gardens, lovely and sometimes challenging walks, loads of birds and the best food ever! We had a beautifully appointed cabin and the owner, Hamish, made sure everything was perfect. We stayed here five nights and although initially we thought it might be too long, it certainly wasn't. There was also a lovely pool to cool off in surrounded by... More

We only found this place on the internet and as we drove up the road were unsure what it would be like, and we'd booked for 4 nights. However, it really is a special place. The location is awesome, and the isolation great (no hardship to only check emails once a day on a trip to Cooktown). The cabins are... More

This place is unique, we visited in the monsoon season and had an amazing experience with the wild life and the environment. Hamish the chatty host, is a font of knowledge about the area and the wildlife. He is also the chef and we had some great meals. He makes his own bread and uses local produce in his menu.... More

We stayed only 1 night here as we were touring around the area, it's a shame we couldn't stay longer. It's a good base for Cooktown and travelling along the Bloomfield track. The lodge is so relaxing in a stunning setting. The rains arrived the day we arrived and the sound of the frogs and the birds was amazing. Thanks... More

We stayed one night while visiting Cooktown. Mungumby was a lovely place, so quiet al, you can hear is the sound of the lovely creek that runs out the back of the bungalows. these are not luxury bungalows, they are basic lodgings but they are clean and bright and had all you needed. gardens were gorgeous. the best part of... We stayed two nights here and used it as a base for exploring the Cooktown area. We got a hearty welcome from Hamish whose night walk aound his woodland was very entertaining especially when Hamish had to move a fallen branch out of the way and got covered in green ants for his trouble. He showed us how to locate... More

Sadly only a 1 night stay as Mungumby was booked for our other available nights but we turned up in the morning, not a problem to Hamish who welcomed us. I couldn't wait to walk to the Hidden Waterfall for a rock pool swim which was fantastic. It is quite a precarious (and I saw a snake!), fun walk but... More

From the moment we arrived our hosts, Hamish and Isabella couldn't do enough for us. It's true that the lodge is located down a long, unmade up track, but we managed it in a normal car, although 4WD would have been better. Hamish took us on a night walk, which was really interesting. We had pre booked a 3 1/2... More
