We stayed in Tideswell on a 5 day break while visiting family & friends & were looking forward to revisiting the Horse & Jockey again following the wonderful experience we had last year when it was under Marie's management. We made 'The Jockey' our local every evening last year after being made to feel so welcome & throughly enjoyed it...what a difference a year makes!! We were sad to hear Marie had left but happy it had reopened regardless, happiness which sooned turned into bitter disappointment. We wanted to book a table for food to be told we could'nt have 1 until Thursday due to the kitchen being closed on Tuesday's & Wednesdays. Not a problem as we were here until Friday, however it wasn't worth the 2 day wait. The food was slow arriving despite the pub being vitually empty & was a poor standard, 2 of our meals arrived & was a long 10 minute delay with the other 2. When they did arrive, they were lukewarm temp at best & clearly been warmed in a microwave ...is it really all homecooked? All 4 plates were pooly presented & the food looked like it had literally been thrown onto the plate. The young waitress was polite & apolgetic so we did'nt want to complain. The drinks were ok depending on what you had, a good choice of gins & spirits but the real ales were a poor selection & quality. Only 1 local brewey ale available & just did'nt taste right at all The new very young manager kept appearing & disappearing & clearly focused his attention on the locals he know's - this being a group of very young, loud drinkers. He was however very pleasant & polite with the short conversation we had & hope he can make improvements over time & gain experience. The toilets need a good clean especially the gents which were not good at all, everytime someone came out an unpleasant smell wafted around the pub. On a positive, the pub itself was still very clean & the staff were polite. We left feeling deflated, disappointed & sad that it has changed so much from what it was last year

Very friendly staff with some good recommendations for activities in the area. The room was very nice, including complimentary toiletries. A very lovely stay with easy check in and out following a good nights sleep. Would recommend to enable visiting the local area!
