A bustling Derbyshire village popular with everyone from fans of outdoor activity breaks to literature and history buffs. Walk the Charlotte Brontë Literature trail, taking in North Lees Manor featured in Jane Eyre and visit the oversized grave of Robin Hood’s sidekick, Little John. YHA Hathersage is only 700 metres from the station on the Manchester to Sheffield train line, making it ideal Peak District accommodation for discovering everything the area has to offer. A great destination for walking, hiking and climbing holidays.

They do not look after it at all. The window sills are rotting and in need of repair. There is little window insulation or other insulation in much of the building. I don’t understand why the woke, right-on, trendy YHA, which signs up to every PC global warming theory going, can’t do something as basic and cheap as install some secondry glazing and put decent curtains on windows. It is not expensive. Easier to say than to do, I guess.

Stayed for one night whilst walking the Derwent Valley Heritage trail. A really friendly, clean and comfortable hostel situated on the edge of a beautiful village. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Fellow hostellers were all walkers and sharing tips and stories. A place to bunk down - no frills just a nice place to rest a weary head.

This hostel is in a great location, a 10-minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes from town, but far enough away from pubs to be quiet at night. Plenty of Peak District walking and cycling on the doorstep as well as the fantastic outdoor swimming pool. This is a really small hostel, so does not have facilities such as a games room like other hostels. It does have a cosy lounge and small dining area though.

The staff of YHA Hathersage are so nice and helped me a lot. They gave me really nice suggestions for exploring the village. They were very enthusiastic and kindly to help. The village was so nice that people definitely need to go and enjoy.

A fairly basic youth hostel, conveniently placed on the outskirts of the pleasant village of Hathersage. Within walking distance of the railway station. Meals available, also self-catering kitchen. A good place for walking the Hope Valley.
