#6 of 13 B&Bs / Inns in Castleton
Travellers' Choice
Swiss House is a family run Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Castleton, in the Peak District National Park. Our B&B can sleep up to 20 people in 8 en-suite bedrooms. Our full English breakfast is, so we are told, just 'the best' with lots of local and home-made produce like British bacon, locally made sausage and black pudding (all from the butcher in Hope), and Seville orange marmalade, various jams and granola lovingly made by Martha! This is an ideal base for walking, climbing or sight seeing. We have plenty of off-road parking. Packed lunches are available and we have a drying room if the weather becomes inclement!

Just happened to be passing first day lockdown lifted, on my bike, needed a refill of my bidon and the lady was extremely obliging. Looks like a great place to sit out with great beers- plan to return tomorrow weather permitting (as can only sit outside due to lockdown rules) with my husband and have a ‘proper’ drink . Thankyou again .

There was a very comfortable bed and warm room, and a good hot shower. However, advance communication with the B and B was business like and brief rather than welcoming and friendly. The 'early' breakfast was very basic and non appetising, just cereal and toast were offered, this could have been so much more substantial and appealing, it did not set me up for a long day's walk at all. Unlike modern hotels you could hear people talking in other rooms; then there was also noise from upstairs where they were doing renovations. Finally, having specifically requested Gluten free food, the only gluten free option was 'gf bread', there seemed to be no knowledge of whether their other breakfast food was gluten free or not, and on the last two days they ran out of gf bread anyway! Sadly overpriced, I am sure the location in the heart of High Peaks pushed the price up.

Stayed Here for 3 nights, nice, clean comfortable room. Stayed in room 5 which had lovely views. Excellent location, within easy reach of the pretty town centre with lots of walks straight from the door step. Breakfast was very good and the homemade granola to die for. Perfect place for a short break

A very friendly B&B in a great location. Our room had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed and a powerful shower. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, and was well prepared. The adjoining bar, the Swiss Tap, is handy and very pleasant, with good beer and food such as wraps and pizzas.

Room Tip: Room 4 overlooks the road and is above the bar, so you might find it a bit noisy, but we slept well.

Plenty of free parking and very friendly staff. Great location just around the corner from Castleton’s high street. The room was simply decorated and bed comfortable. There was a kettle, teapot and china cups with a selection of tea coffee and biscuits. Always nice to have a hairdryer provided. Breakfast was very tasty especially the coconutty granola. Pillows could have been a bit more bouncy.
