Stayed at this hotel for last 2 nights, with friends, in 2 double ensuites. The beds were very comfy and loved the pillows. The breakfast was very good. Had evening meal which delicious. All of the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Free parking across the road.
We booked 3 rooms for a two day walking trip. On arrival we were handled in a rather surley and unfriendly manner - almost as if we were not very welcome! The rooms were clean and functional so no issue there. The staff seem to fall into two categories - some very friendly and accommodating but others definitely not. Breakfast was probably the highlight. We would not stay here again.
My husband and I took a friend away for a couple of days in Derbyshire and we decided to stay one night in Castleton at the Cheshire Cheese pub. The room online looked very nice and reviews tended to be about the pub and restaurant rather than the rooms, so we didn't have a lot to go on. The first thing we noticed when we arrived was that our room was not inside the hotel but a room outside next to the road. On arriving in the room we were hit by an extremely strong smell of bleach which did not dissipate until the next morning. I have asthma so found it particularly bad. Then there was the traffic noise. The hotel is on the main road running through the town and the traffic is heavy all day from 6.00am until around 11.30pm. It was very difficult to sleep, as traffic was even faster and louder throughout the night. Noise was also a problem with very little insulation between us and the people above, I could hear someone urinating 4 times in the night and everytime they flushed the toilet and used the sink tap a roaring noise from the plumbing would go on for several minutes, waking me every time. We asked to speak to the manager and was told by an uninterested young lady behind the bar that the manager would be told when she comes back. No one ever did come to speak to us which is why I would most definitely not recommend anyone staying here, unless they can sleep through anything.…
Just had an enjoyable nights stay, the room although small was functional and clean. Both breakfast and evening meals were very good, with their mixed grill being first class. All the staff members were both friendly and courteous. All in all a great place to stay and we would visit again
Met with a friendly welcome smile.Check in trouble free. Room small but clean and tidy,no issues.Evening meal and Breakfast were very good. Staff very very friendly and polite, especially Faye behind the bar. Well done all.
