Thanks for the great review, glad you had a good time. The old grey goat is called Grumpy by the way. He's about 15 years old and a bit better behave than the other two. See you again soon.

This is a lovely hostel in a beautiful location with good walking from the door, all of which should make it an ideal base. Sadly the last night of our stay was spoiled by a large group intent on partying and then being very noisy when they did finally go to bed in the early hours. The first two nights...

Thanks for the review. Glad you had a good time for your first few days but sorry about the noisy group on your last night. We do have staff on duty overnight for just this kind of thing - it's unfortunate you didn't telephone, we'd have been able to do something for you. I gather you had a problem with...

Thanks for the review and the kind comments about the place and the staff, glad you had a good weekend. Apologies for the shower issue, we traced it to a faulty drain trap and it has been fixed now. I agree with you about the bottled water - what we should have told you is that our tap water is...

Was on a hiking weekend in the Peak District and needed somewhere cheap to stay. First time I've stayed in a YHA but they're brilliant. Cheap, clean and very friendly. Enjoyed watching the Olympics in the lounge with a few beers in the evening. Had a great cooked breakfast in the morning and they made me a good packed lunch...

My kids and I had been looking forward to staying in this YHA for a while, Sadly it was not the experience we wanted. As a whole, the grounds and premises are lovely, on arrival staff seemed friendly and the self catering kitchen is large, clean and well equipped. We booked direct with the hostel 2 weeks before our trip,...

Thanks for the review and your comments about the ground floor room. Sorry you didn't have a good time. You are quite right, it can be noisy there if there are lots of people using the nearby spaces. We normally warn guests that they are in a ground floor room so I'm not sure why that didn't happen in your...

We had a twin ensuite room ( bunk Beds / with small shower toilet ). Everything you need for a hostel, excellent well equipped kitchen (large too ) , nice "stately" common rooms, good drying room for wet gear. Position is excellent for local walking which is good .

AMAZING weekend at this wonderful hostel. The weather helped, that's for sure, but the hostel has so many wonderful things going for it! The grounds are an amazing natural playground. There are also goats, chickens and pigs. Places to build dens and tree houses. Huge patio with seating. Bike shed and bike cleaning facility. Super large kitchen with great facilities,...

Just came back from a glorious weekend at the Castletown YHA. Beautiful location, impressive building, really helpful staff, great atmosphere. We were made completely welcome from the moment we arrived and the youth hostel made the perfect setting for a weekend with a group of my oldest friends and there families.....25 of us in all. A spacious building and grounds...

This is the second time I have stayed at this hostel, with a group friends to enjoy walking in the Peak District and enjoy a few beers. The hostel must be one of the most beautiful in the country for the quality of the building and it's setting. Just half a mile from the centre of the village and plenty...
