I would have said 5 star, but it was just that the room did not have that 'wow' factor, and the shower was one where the shower curtains tended to cling to you. Very comfortable bed. Really nice people running it. Do try the restaurant.

Stayed here for 2 nights in August to attend a friends wedding. First impressions were it was quite dark, and old fashioned however we were soon made to feel welcome and given good advice about cheapest place to park (£1 a day 5 minutes walk). Hotel is on a busy narrow street with no parking, on street parking nearby free...

Having now stayed at Virginia House on a number occasions and it has become a firm favourite and home-from-home. I normally stay on a Monday, so haven't tried the restaurant, but breakfast is fantastic. It is in the middle of Ulverston, so easy walking distance to a myriad of pubs and restaurants. Great alternative to staying in Barrow and short...

Excellent location. Nice quiet bedroom at the back of the building. Tasteful décor throughout. Delicious breakfast. We didn't sample dinner in the restaurant although the menu looked tempting. There is a gin parlour and a lovely garden in which to sit and drink on a summer's evening.

We were cycling the Bay cycle route and spent 1 night in the Virginia House Bed and Breakfast in Ulverston , we found the staff extremely helpful, the room was clean and had a comfortable bed with an ensuite shower and bath. The bar specialised in gin with over 80 different gins from all over the world to suit every...

I am reluctant to write this review but the team deserve it. From the welcome on arrival until the departure I was made to feel welcome. Fine dining in the restaurant, a real treat, a choice of a la carte or a sampler menu . Breakfast served with a smile and kept me going all the way home. I am...

We had an overnight at Virginia House and an evening meal. The rooms were very nice, clean, pleasant décor. The staff were welcoming. The food was very nice although there was quite a long wait between courses. They have a separate bar area and Gin parlour. We had a great nights sleep. Breakfast (full Cumbrian) was lovely which set us...

This family business styles itself as a restaurant with rooms and it must be a good restaurant as it was fully booked on the mid-week night I stayed. This was not a problem as I was going out and there are plenty of eating places in the vicinity. My room was compact but very well organised and had everything one...

We are in bed in room 1a overlooking the back of the house. For over an hour at regular intervals, bottles are being dropped into a bin, smashing against other glass bottles. We are trying to sleep and each bottle being dropped in is disturbing us going to sleep. I asked the person if it could be done in the...
