We came here for dinner. The food wasn’t anything special but it tasted nice and the main thing was it wasn’t overpriced and the staff were friendly and helpful. The place could do with painting and some new furniture but we had a good experience
Stayed here during coast to coast walk as it does food in the evenings. Room on 1st floor seemed fine at first, and the raucous noise from the bar area wasn’t initially a problem. Food OK (that’s being generous), but then from around 8pm onwards the disco below cranked up and only stopped at midnight when my wife phoned reception to complain. The noise (lots and lots of shouting) continued on outside at the back for another 30 minutes. So, in conclusion .. stay anywhere else in Shap, but not here on a Friday night. Can’t speak for other nights.
We arrived and were shown to very large clean and well appointed rooms, hot showers after 21 mile walk, then down to the bar for evening meal and drinks. Food was excellent, beer was excellent, staff were friendly and efficient. Great nights sleep in very comfortable beds, Great breakfast served quickly and very tasty. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again
Spent a night here whilst walking C2C. This is a traditional village pub but with the bonus of being a welcoming b&b. When we arrived the staff were very friendly. Our room was enormous with a huge bathroom. The whole suite looked to have been recently refurbished. Due to Covid restrictions they were not serving food in the evening but we were able to get chips from the local chippy. A comfortable night was had. Breakfast was served by 2 very nice ladies who were happy to provide us with any requests. Plenty of food and tea. This pub is located directly opposite the CC walk from shap so is perfectly located for this.
We have just had food here on two consecutive nights and we're really impressed with the dishes we ordered and friendliness of the staff. I would strongly recommend this place and we will be back again
