We arranged with the landlord that we would be there to eat he said that would be ok we arrived two minutes late and they refused us food. Could not believe they refused us service after arranging to be there unbelievable.
Just returned home after a 1 week holiday based in Shap. Only about 100yards from our rental cottage as the Kings Arms Hotel. Went in on our first night and had an excellent meal and reasonably priced along with a good selection of drinks. For the rest of our stay we made this our local, visiting several times and the bonus being dog friendly and so took Poppy our working Cocker Spaniel. Got to the stage she began to drag us to the pub !!!!, well that's our excuse. Staff were brilliant and extremely attentive. Would we recommend this to anyone visiting the area - ABSOLUTLEY. 10 out of 10 on all counts.
We stayed here while on the coast to coast and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's a busy local pub, very good humoured and buzzing, but even though they must get a lot of walkers coming through they are incredibly patient and welcoming. Our bags filled their pool bar for the best part of the day, as they'd been dumped there while we were still walking, but they were very easy going about it. The rooms were lovely, with good views, and comfy beds. They shower was very good. The landlady and staff couldn't have been kinder to all the VERY tired people straggling in over the evening till late (it's at the end of a very long and tiring stage of the Coast walk). We were welcomed, well looked after and the food was excellent - both supper and breakfast. I'd definitely stay here again, and can't speak too highly of the owner.…
Stayed 1 night on Coast to Coast walk. Warm welcome, clean & comfy room, good food , good value. Most impressed by the kindness & helpful attitude the owners showed to different groups of walkers . Thoroughly recommend.
Stayed here again on monday night while walking coast2coast. Arrived after a long hard day in wet weather from Patterdale. Warm and friendly welcome..Rooms very large and clean with good shower etc. Very reasonable price compared with other places on the walk. Meal was first class with an excellent steak from Simons farm. Louise and staff were brilliant and we appreciated a slightly earlier breakfast for the nect days walk to Kirkby Stephen. Packed lunch brilliant with delicious home cooked Ham. This place is perfect located for rejoining the route.
Seems like it’s a very good pub for locals , we called in for meal , but to be honest the menu wasn’t very exiting , so we ended up at the local chippy and they were delicious!! Came back the following evening as my husband wanted to watch the football and this was the only pub around with sky , it was a very busy night , with large party’s of locals coming in , the queuing system at the bar was diabolical, ok again if your a local , also think the landlord and his family should keep a better eye on things behind the bar than spending time the other side drinking !!!
Arrived from the stock car racing tired, dirty and hungry. On pulling up outside the pub it was absolutely heaving! Upon entering the smallest bar in the world it was heaving with a 50th birthday party!! Considering I booked a room for £130 and had 2 kids with me, which was clearly indicated on the booking form - it would’ve been considerate of someone to ring me and advise there would be a do which would go on until midnight! I figured having residents the live music would cease quite early - which it did - to be replaced by a “just that one volume too loud” disco. Which then led to brawling and name calling outside till 2.20am! ON THE PLUS SIDE - the staff were very friendly and accommodating- the food was nice and the room was also nice. But Definitely not worth £130.
An unusual series of events brought us to this hotel. They were our saviours in an hour of need. But although it was a case of any port in a storm ............... the hotel met and exceeded expectations. Super friendly staff, fantastic food and a room with a ( phew !!! ) view. Great location, amicable locals who were willing to chew the cud, fantastic walks nearby. Even an open air swimming pool. They turned a disaster into the delightful, we are so grateful.
Shocking meal served in a cardboard box got what it says on menu I ordered sausage and chips that is what I got nothing else no vegetables or anything . My wife ordered burger and chips that is what she got no garnish or anything. Drinks were served in plastic glasses. Still the cost was expensive. Could of got better meal from road side and a lot cheaper
Reception and general service ok. Pub a little tired though room was fine but a bit noisy from the bar downstairs. Evening meal was ok. Breakfast was ok but we could not pay anyone for additional costs on departure. Like all in the catering section at this time over stretched due to shortages as a result of covid.
