I traveled down from the Scottish Borders for a business trip, I was recommended to stay here and I'm glad I did, it's beautiful, warm, clean, has everything you need, parking spaces available, on arrival I was warmly welcomed by Mrs Jackson, and shown to my room. Room 2 ! It is spacious, clean with a big comfy bed, wardrobe...

We stayed at The Hermitage for one night when we visited family in Shap. What a beautiful building. Christmas decorations were wonderful, Jean says she still has the fresh ones to do. I wish I could see them! All the rooms were lovely. Really nice residents lounge; our bedroom was great with a super comfortable bed and a big bathroom....

A lovely stay at a very homely bnb. A rambling house dating back to 1691, very well kept. A breakfast to die for with delicious home made sausage. Positioned well on the A6 at one end of the village. The proprietor, Jean, was very pleasant and obliging.

Had the most amazing stay on our coast to coast trip. Jean even washed fellow travellers clothes. The breakfast was one of the best of our trip, sausage to die for. The history in the building is amazing. Really clean and feel honoured to have been able to stay in Jeans home. Lovely bath, thank you

We had a lovely stay with jean in this beautiful old B&B. We arrived a little early and received a warm welcome. We loved our large sunny room and bath. We would especially like to thank jean for finding my wallet and forwarding it on with sherpavan to catch us up a couple of stops along. Very kind and much...

This is a beautiful B&B, its very beautiful and extremely well looked after. I noticed how clean and fresh the air was immediately. Me and my friend had a double room, again very very clean and well presented. You are given a selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate with some additional confectionary - thank you. Also the bathroom, OH...

We (a couple and a teenager) arrived at the Hermitage late one evening after walking from Patterdale (C2C walk) and loved the Scottish decor. We slept very well there and were mesmerized by the breakfast room. a Must-see for sure!

This 400 year old B&B is architecturally amazing, with twists and turns and angles all over. The Hermitage had the MOST delicious breakfast sausage that we tasted during our several week stay in England! And the proprietor’s son was absolutely charming. We had an unfortunate incident at the Hermitage breakfast. No one mentioned that there was assigned seating so we...

What a beautiful house! And such a lovely lady host. We (my dad and I) arrived after an appalling day. The weather had been horrendous all day. We had set off from Rosthwaite in the rain and arrived in Shap in the rain. The accommodation was a welcome site and we were not disappointed. A very big room with a...

We arrived bedraggled and tired after a long day scrambling around Haweswater from Patterdale, to find that out leader had under booked us, but the proprietor Jean fitted us all in AFTER sending us down to the local fish shop for dinner...we froze for an extra hour...not Jean's fault so much as ours for not confirming our party size with...
