Such a great hotel. We stayed for a walking weekend. Really friendly staff, clean and comfy room. The food was top notch, hearty and beautifully cooked. The beer festival coincided with our stay, which was great. Will definitely be back.

Good: Prices reasonable, location good, food great, lots of parking, good atmosphere, friendly staff, good breakfast Bad: Rooms need redecorating, although the bathroom we had was modern, clean and smart. Breakfast is 8 till 9 at the weekend, although they will open early if you ask.

First visit to Eskdale last weekend from Harrogate, lucky with great weather for walks and seeing Scafell pike and the water falls area etc. Lil & I also really enjoyed the 'Strands' hospitality bar staff, enjoyed the quiz/food and credit to the guys taking time to show us the production process of the brewery behind the pub next day Rgds...'Strandsvestites'... Stayed for 2 nights at the end of September and really enjoyed our stay. There was a oktoberfest event on both nights that we stayed and this certainly added to the atmosphere. The beers were excellent and we dined in the hotel both nights. The only let down was the steak that my husband ordered, ordered it 'medium' and was... More

Stayed here for a great weekend in the lakes. Out of the hustle and bustle, charming, relaxing, great accommodation food & atmosphere. Very friendly staff & a great selection of ales to try. Handy for everywhere. Certainly worth a visit

We stopped as we had travelled from Windermere to Wasdale on the single track road through the hills. It had been an amazing journey but now we needed a drink and something to eat. We went in to discover that the landlord brewed his own beer. My husband tried a few samples then chose his. I was undecided so the... More

We stayed at The Strands for my significant birthday at the end of September. I chose this hotel because of the good reviews and the fact it had its own brewery....something that was important to my real ale fan husband! And I'm glad I did. The welcome was warm and the room (executive suite) absolutely wonderful. The room and bathroom... More

We've just stayed at The Strand and we all really enjoyed our Weekend. Perfect location for all the walks around Wasdale. We managed 3 great days with only 45 mins of rain. The rooms at the Hotel were comfy. The evening food was amazing, I can recommend the Lamb Caserole, the Chixken and Ham pie, the Gammon steak, the Beef... More

Probably the best Steak and Ale Pie in England. Don't expect to leave this place with any room left for even one pea. The generous portions are are also very reasonably priced. They serve locally brewed beers so everyone is catered for. Very Highly recommended if you have been out for the day working up a ravenous appetite.
