My wife and I stayed at the Ennerdale Country House for an evening booked via a Virgin Experience voucher. The hotel is situated within lovely grounds and the building from the exterior looks rather grand. Once inside it is first apparent that the building needs a bit of TLC but it does have some very quaint and charming features such as the open fire place and decorative ceiling in the dining room. The rooms are OK, only single pain sash windows so if you are near the road, like we were, it can be a bit noisy during the night and a bit drafty. We put a towel at the bottom of the window which stopped the draught coming through. We did raise an issue about the electric shredder attached to the toilet making noises ever now and again but in all honesty it was quite than the traffic going past durong the night. Food in the evening was OK, we were hoping for a better selection, we had to choose from an all inclusive menu, we weren't stayong all inclusive so am unsure if there were other options available. Being in the Lakes I thought I'd order a Cumberland Sausage but wasn't the traditional type I was expecting but it was still OK. My wife had the lasagna which she described as OK. Portion sizes for the starters and mains were generous. The bar is nice and big with a decent selection of drinks and prices are very reasonable. Breakfast the next morning was OK as well, my poached egg was solid but all the other items were satisfactory. I can't really fault the hotel on much but I couldn't highly praise a particular aspect either. If I had to describe the stay in one word it would, unsuprisingly, be "OK."

I titled my review this way as i can honestly say the Wonderful staff at the hotel do everything to make your stay memorable. From checking in at reception with Amy, meeting Steve at the bar for pre-dinner drinks to meeting Rachel when we went for dinner, we were treated like friends and had such a great time and many laughs with them during our four night stay. We were two couples and our rooms were lovely, would recommend the Executive rooms (our were 27 and 31), The meals at breakfast and dinner were always fabulous and great portion size. Amy, Morris and Dan in the kitchen are fantastic and their home cooked pies are so tasty, as was all the meals we chose. The waitresses were so attentive and Jess was great behind the bar when Steve wasn't there. we went out daily and had an inclusive lovely packed lunch supplied by the hotel every day. Jackie the manager and her team really do everything to look after you. Our rooms were maintained brilliantly by the lovely housekeeping staff too, We will return next year to see our friends, which is what they all became. Thank you to you all.

Great location if you are breaking up the Coast to Coast at Cleator. Less than five minutes off the trail, on the main road. Clean and comfortable rooms, excellent restaurant and gardens. Lovely lounge area to enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon or a pre-dinner drink.

Booked this hotel on the all inclusive deal. The hotel grounds were absolutely stunning but the hotel itself is in much need of a facelift. Our room was a good size but there were numerous damp patches on the wall and in the bathroom. The staff were fabulous and couldn’t do enough for you. We didn’t stay in the hotel for lunch but breakfast and dinner choices were plentiful and the food was delicious. The drinks on the all inclusive were only wine and lager so a bit restricted but the rose wine was lovely. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best while we were there so didn’t get to do nice walks but we did visit Muncaster Castle and Whitehaven which would have been more enjoyable if the weather had been dry as they both would have been good day outs.
