#3 of 6 hotels in Borrowdale
Travellers' Choice
The Leathes Head is a magnificent eleven bedroom Edwardian Country House Hotel, situated in the unspoilt Borrowdale Valley. The hotel is set amongst three acres of private grounds and is surrounded by stunning scenery, meandering rivers and some of the most spectacular fells in North West England. With superb views across the valley and easy access to Keswick, this is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The entire Borrowdale Valley is ringed by glorious fells known and loved by seasoned walkers. Lake cruises, water sports, mountain biking trails and plenty of other Lake District activities are all within easy reach of the hotel. We are proud holders of two AA Rosettes for food, and our guests can enjoy dishes prepared using locally sourced ingredients; sit in the traditional bar to enjoy a drink or watch the wildlife from the comfort of the conservatory windows before retiring to one of the individually furnished bedrooms, with views of the surrounding countryside and hotel gardens. The hotel is proud to be nominated two years running for Hotel of the Year in the Cumbria Tourism awards.

Stayed overnight after going up scarfell pike, very helpful especially ringing ta ask if we would like to book evening dinner, unfortunately we didn't finish our walk till 9, so arrived later than intended , but staff were fabulous, very welcoming especially ensuring we could get a well earned drink at the bar, pre ordered breakfast by app , room was lovely , not a fan of wet rooms but that's personal preference cannot fault decor of it , breakfast was lovely cooked to perfection , had a quick game of scrabble in the lounge and walk round the lovely garden with catbells in the distance , a bit more than I'd usually pay for an over night stay ,it was a treat and very pleased we went and would ho back again, especially to have an evening meal, would highly recommend it .

Fabulous place to stay. Great views, all the staff were amazing, excellent clean rooms and the food was out of this world. Both dinner and breakfast were fabulous, I would fully recommend. We stayed in room 5 and could not fault it. Would definitely go back.

After a few attempts at visiting here we were finally able to take advantage of our Travelzoo deal and visit here in November. The house is really lovely with amazing views across the valley. When we arrived in the room it was freezing cold and the furniture was dated but it was nicely decorated and the en-suite was lovely with a powerful shower which was great after a long walk up catbells and over to Keswick the day after. Dinner was only included on the first evening but we enjoyed it so much we booked again for the second, the chef certainly deserves his Michelin recommendation. And whilst the bar was closed it was nice to enjoy drinks in front of the fire in the sitting room before dinner and finish our wine in there afterwards. Overall a very lovely stay if you’re looking for a quiet location to enjoy the nearby walks and great food.

We stayed in this lovely hotel nestled amongst the Fells and Derwent Lake. It is set back from the road in attractive gardens where we had cream tea one afternoon. It's a really lovely setting and the interior of the hotel is very smart too. We stayed in Catbells Room which is large and has great views from both windows. Our stay was blissful and we were well looked after by staff. We had an evening meal included in our Travelzoo deal and the Hotel Manager and Chef went out of their way to make sure I could enjoy the meal (catering especially with my food intolerances in mind). The Dinner and Breakfast were great. We couldn't use the bar area but had drinks in the sitting room which was relaxing. We stayed two nights and were able to do two fell walks from the hotel. We hope to return to this lovely hotel once COVID restrictions are lifted.
