I spent some time here a few years back and loved it. Sometimes I find myself daydreaming about my time; the white sand, chilled vibes, friendly and entertaining staff, lovely warm sea and the unspoilt diving. I hear the fishing is quite good too but would much rather swim around with 2m tarpon in La Poza then try and land...

I have been going here for years... What a great getaway place. Great food too.. I love going down to Mexico, doing the action tourist thing and finishing my last days here. Great place to relax and recharge. Bring a book, or someone you love, you won’t be disappointed. The diving and fishing is great also. They will take you...

My wife and I hadn't gotten away alone for almost 5 years so we decided to take a late summer break and visit Mexico. I had visited the Yucatan previously and knew the beaches there to be pristine and warm. We did not want another large hotel experience and decided to try a B & B and fishing resort with...

Costa de Cocos is a great place. Dave and Ilana are the consummate hosts. They'll fill all your diving and fishing needs. The restaurant is good and you're staying right on the beach. Xcalak is small and quaint. It's definitely worth the effort to get there.

After landing in Cancun via a 4 hour flight from New York City and driving 5 hours to Xcalak Mexico we Arrived at the last unspoiled virgin coast in Mexico. National Geographic calls Rt. 307 the road from Cancun to Xcalak the loneliest road in the Americas. Having done this trip many times since we first discovered it we can...

My husband and I go to Costa de Cocos every winter vacation. We love the natural, untouched beauty at the tip of the Mayan coastline while enjoying the comfortably of these charming, upscale palapas. Great restaurant too. The owners put a lot of TLC in the place, and seem to know many of the customers who have been there before....

Spent a very enjoyable week at Costa de Cocos with seven members of the Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club. Accomadations were clean, confortable and the staff was friendly and efficient. Excellent food and drinks were a plus and all included in our week's fishing package at a reasonable cost. If fishing is your main interest, the guides were all knowlegable...

Whether you go for the diving, the fly fishing, or just to find that remote spot to relax in the sun, the best place is Xcalak. And the best place to stay/dive/fish/eat is Costa de Cocos. David and Ilana Randall have a gem of a resort a few miles from the river that separates Mexico from Belize. Diving excursions with...

Although my primary interest is fly fishing, this resort has everything but stress! The fishing for tarpon, permit and bonefish was enhanced by their excellent, hard working guides. We caught many bones up to seven pounds. Other guests did some snorkeling that was close enough to swim to from the beautiful beach in front of our cottage. Our favorite beverage...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Costa de Cocos is about immersing yourself in nature, while relaxing in a hammock suspended under palm trees, enjoying an ice cold beverage on our patio, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, traveling along the coast in a kayak, or touring the surrounding landscape on foot, observing our local flora and fauna. From our shore you will observe numerous juvenile fish in the shallows, while multiple species of shorebirds feed along the coast. All you hear is the gentle roar of waves breaking on the nearby reef, all you feel is the warm sun and a gentle breeze blowing across your skin. You are surrounded by turquoise waters and dense jungle and mangroves. No skyscrapers, crowds, or cell phones.Costa de Cocos offers a truly unique experience on the frontier of Mexico. Our environmentally friendly resort has much to offer those who seek to experience life off the beaten path. We are located within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Xcalak). The closest gas station and ATM are 30 miles (50 km) away, and the closest sizable town, Chetumal, is a distant 130 miles (200 km). Power is provided by the sun, with a generator backup. No square concrete rooms here, you will stay in a private Mayan-style beach bungalow with attached bathroom and shower. You will dine in our shore-front restaurant and bar, with wood decor and thatched roof.During your stay you can go fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, experience guided bird tours, kayak along the coast, visit Mayan ruins, travel to nearby towns and museums, and visit Belize. We are located five hours south of Cancun and three hours north of Chetumal. Belize and Ambergris Caye are located only a few short miles to the south. We have a wireless Internet connection, but no cell or land-line phone service. The nearby village of Xcalak offers very little in the way of shopping and nightlife. If you are looking for sandy beaches, shopping, and an active night life, it it best not to choose us. ... more   less
