40 cañones is a beautiful hotel on the beach of Mahahual with confortable rooms, a delicious restaurant and fun beach club. It’s beautiful setup makes it a great place to stay a while and enjoy the beach and boardwalk.
The location is excelent, service is good, comunal areas are beautiful, and you have direct access to the beach. What I think needs updating are the rooms, quite basic and looks like nothing has been updated in a long time. Overall is not a bad...More
The room was nice and clean. Nothing special but we booked last minute and they were almost sold out. The hotel is in front of beach. Location is great for walking to all that the restaurants and bars has to offer.
For a in town hotel this is one of the best . This hotel is right on the beach and at the south end of town . The hotel is well maintained. There is a lot of hardwood details . I liked the evening lighting...More

We visited in early March; the sargassum washed up and could pile up quite a bit. At this hotel, the (wonderful) staff worked diligently in the morning to rake and clean the beach. So it wasn't a hinderance to our experience and certainly not an issue for snorkeling, which we did off the beach and through a reef tour as well. We had come from Tulum, where the sargassum seemed to be denser and harder to remove. So it was present, but I wouldn't have cancelled my trip over it, and a good idea to be at a hotel where it's being managed.
