I was a little disappointed when I first walked in - it is an older property, and things looked a little small and worn. The walls were fine but there were paint drips on the bathroom floor.
But:
- I quickly realized it was just the cosmetic stuff that didn't matter
- the photos in the listing were accurate
- we had plenty of room for our 4-day stay
- everything worked and was very clean
- important stuff that you interact with like the bed, sink, toilet, shower were all newer and in great shape
- the grounds were lovely
- owners and staff were very accommodating
- the guest laundry facilities were great
- it was very quiet there
- wifi was great
- breakfast was pretty simple but decent, in a lovely room
- did you see the price?! (At least at the time we went; you will have to compare)
If it was the price of most of the hotels we've stayed at, I'd rate it a little lower. But we got everything we needed, enjoyed it, and got such a bargain compared to other places nearby that I feel they deserve full marks.
The walls were a little thin, the pillows were only so-so, and it would be nice to have more space in the bathroom. But that and minor cosmetic stuff is all I can find to complain about. We were happy.
But:

The staff is very helpful. The location is great, close enough to Cavendish and far enough away from the touristy boardwalk. Breakfast is good every day. Breakfast room may be a little small for the number of people they had, but that's probably a very good sign for them. The pool was nice. One extra benefit is that they loan you a National Park pass during your stay so that you can go in and out of PEI National Park without paying every time. Rooms are a little small.

Lovely owners, NEW owners. Very kind and accommodating. We had our dog with us. The motel has everything you need including brand new BBQs. There is a play area for kids, a hut for ice so you don’t disturb anyone.

We’ve always recommended this resort to friends wanting to visit cavendish. But we won’t now. We’ve been coming here off and on for 30 years, since the years of Fiddles and Viddles…and loved being there but this year (didn’t visit last year because of Covid) we were so disappointed. The new owners are so nice and trying so hard to make the place work but…..our room was so damp and very musty, we stayed but got air fresheners to mask the smell. The air conditioner was so noisy…the pool was cold and most of the decking was roped off with caution tape plus some of the deck on the house keeping units. The pool gate was missing. Grounds looked like they hadn’t been mowed for awhile. I know the owners monitor this site and do hope they understand that maintaining the property is important. I wish them the best.

We do apologize that you did not enjoy your stay, though we do dispute some of these claims. There is a small section of the pool deck roughly 5 X5 near our newly built pool building blocked off, there is roughly another 60+ feet of decking available for guests use around the entire pool, we have also never removed the pool gate as it is against code to not have one for safety reasons. There is also no caution tape and never has been among any of our guest rooms or units. The air conditioning in each guest room has the ability to be turned to different speeds, the higher the speed the louder it will seem, though we do apologize and will look into replacing them as necessary. We do keep a daily long of our pool temperature and our heater does the same thing, we looked in our logbook back to June when we first opened it and the coldest temperature recorded was 23 Celsius. Though we understand that it may not be as warm as it could be, and know that everyone's bodies adjusts differently to the water. We take pride in this property and have a very dedicated maintenance crew that cuts the grass weekly, weeds and plants flowers, due to a very rainy July, it has made it difficult at times. We truly appreciate your years of business and are extremely grateful that you have continued to come back each year. We know that there are always things that need improvement and try our best to meet the needs of our guests. We dispute these claims because they are misleading to potential guests. We do not dispute some aspects of your review as a very humid July has made it difficult to contain the occasional dampness in the air, though we do appreciate you letting us know and we shall be running the air conditioners to help bring excess moisture level down.

This is the 3rd year my husband and I have stayed here. This year we had some of our family travel with us, and we had a great time. We have never had an issue here, the owners/staff are very kind and friendly, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the pool is very nice and the complimentary breakfast is good. We would have no problem recommending Bay Vista to anyone and will definitely stay there again.

We’ve stayed here twice the past few summers and always a great experience. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, good value close to the Cavendish main strip. A nice home base for a Cavendish family getaway. We brought our dog as well and no issues. Will be back next year for sure!!

The bed was very comfortable. Floor was filthy. Bathroom could've done with some upgrades. The taps and light fixture was corroded. No table to eat at so having the barbecue wasn't going to work. Breakfast was good and they were quick to replenish. I wish I could remember her name when we checked in. She was great!!

Our first time in the area and we found this gem. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff/owners. Quaint and comfortable. They gave us a great recommendation for a stop along our drive and it was beautiful. If we’re ever in the area again we will stay with them.

I booked this hotel for a short 4-day vacation in the 3rd week of September. I received a confirmation number providing the rate and acknowledging the fact that breakfast was included. We were about to leave our home to drive to PEI for our vacation, when we received a phone call from Bay Vista to say that for some undefined reason they could not honour the reservation. In further discussion it was revealed that we were the only guests to have reservations. I could only conclude that the real reason for breaching our agreement was that the owners would rather let us down at the last minute than man-up and honour the booking.
Bay Vista did say that they had made arrangements for us to stay at a nearby motel, and that the rate agreed with Bay Vista would be honoured. In looking into the details of this second motel we found that it is rated a full star below the Bay Vista, and did not provide breakfast. In addition, the quoted rate was $10 a night lower than Bay Vista's! It makes me wonder who was going to pocket the extra $10 difference after we had paid the proposed rate to the second motel.
On arrival at PEI, we checked in to the PEI tourist office and told them of our experience. They were quite disturbed that we had been treated in this manner, and found us better accommodation than what Bay Vista had been trying to palm us off with.
PEI is a wonderful place for a vacation. The PEI Tourism people couldn't be more helpful. There are many, many good hotels, motels and cottages to choose from. My advice would be not to take a chance on Bay Vista. Look elsewhere.

I booked the Bay Vista Motel based on previous TripAdvisor reviews, their in-depth website, and their reasonable prices. It was WAY beyond my expections.
The friendliest and most helpful staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting in all the thousands of resorts, hotels, inns, and motels I've stayed in around the world.
This is a family run operation - by a family that's passionate about providing their guests with the best possible experience. Tammy, Vivian and Arnold were all so helpful with any questions, providing fantastic recommendations, maps, and even "local insider" tips you won't find in any guide book. As a many generation island family, you can also learn a lot of local history and lore from them if you want.
My room (#26) was tucked around the back - very private and peaceful. Exactly want I wanted. Large, comfortable, and even a large flat screen TV with hundreds of channels. Spotlessly clean as well. The best sleep I've had in months!
Good continental breakfast with cereals, breads & bagels, fresh fruit, juices, and excellent coffee.
The Bay Vista is less than 5 minutes from Green Gables and Cavendish Beach, and all the other area attractions. Close enough for convenience, far enough for tranquil serenity.
In a word, the Bay Vista Motel is perfection.
