We've been stopping for lunch or dinner at the Historic Tapoco Lodge for years. This year, following our rafting trip down the Cheoah River, we decided to sit and stay for a couple of days. We're so glad we did. We've already made reservations for next year. This spot literally drops out of nowhere in the NC mountains. It's a hidden gem. We enjoyed great meals at the tavern, took a hike to the hidden waterfall, sat by the firepits on the river and genuinely had a GREAT time. Dave at the front desk is incredibly helpful and friendly. Jasmine (int he breakfast room) starts your day off with outstanding service and a smile every morning. Frances in the Tavern is quick, friendly and helpful for lunch and dinner. All around, this is a place to sit and stay for awhile. It's especially great when rafters and kayakers are shooting past on the Cheoah River. Great for families, couples and gatherings of friends. Don't miss it!

Be careful when you make a reservation at this place. "Bait & Switch" appears to be at the forefront of their business model. My reservation was messed up beginning with my first phone call. Stay elsewhere!

Dear Gary Powell, Let me state this again, we did not “Bait & Switch” you. This was a misunderstanding and after speaking with your sweet wife everything was refunded immediately to your card. We emailed you a copy of the receipt to smokehiker@yahoo.com. The original confirmation for your room had the written accurate price that was also emailed over a week in advance of your arrival. We usually visit once or twice a year. We just completed a 4 night visit. If I could give them a rating of 10 I would. The place is marvelous. The entire complex is impeccably clean. The staff is wonderful. We’ve never been disappointed. We look forward to our next visit. Try to make your visit coincide with a river opening.

We stayed here for two nights in May in cabin Shanteetlah 1. When we booked we looked at the pictures and thought our specific cabin was a bit outdated. Everything else was fully booked so we decided to book it anyways. When we arrived we were literally in awe of the environment. The wooded hills, the well maintained gardens, the big hotel and restaurants, the water creek. It is truly breathtaking. Then we went to our own cabin and were very surprised to find such a huge and wonderful cabin! Not outdated at all, very spacious and of the four connecting cabins, the one that is situated the nicest. The walk down to the bar and restaurant is lovely with so many nice details as water creeks, hammocks and beautiful trees. The cabin was clean, spacious and nice. The pictures in the website don’t really do justice to the cabin. Definitely a highlight of our trip!
