For some unknown reason every motel in town is full so we ended up here ..... after trying 3 times to pay with our card we were asked to go get cash because their system was down (was down over 3 hours)..... so ok we use our gas and our time to go find a cash points to get cash to pay for our room.... stuff happens. It wouldn't bother me so much if we weren't paying the same amount that we did last night for a MUCH nicer MUCH cleaner room in another town. We paid $80 for a room that wasn't even worth $50. We aren't that picky but it's run down and abandoned look made me take pics just to send to my family to tell them we had rented a room in the bates motel..... time will tell it's only 8:30.... let's hope it's a good night 😬

First, the pictures posted are very deceptively non-representative of the facility. My friend and I are not picky about amenities or decorator appointments, but we do expect a comfortable place to stay after riding the North Georgia, Tennessee and North Caroline roads. This, I regret was the lowest of the low. We should have cancelled upon seeing the condition of the facility and upon walking into a lobby with lights turned out and the A/C off, I am sure to save money. The lady, however, was very nice (I assume an owner) and, quite frankly, we were tired and felt sorry for her. Being fair, it is not a flop house. The owner and staff were very nice, some apologetic. I am sure when this motel was built that it was the crown jewel of Murphy. It had a spacious dining room and very large commercial kitchen (appears long since shut down) and a ballroom larger(1.5 to 2 x larger) than a basketball court. The views were very nice. All of that is closed and does not appear to have been used for quite a while. The room (108) was of average size. On first look, it appeared to be clean, but closer inspection showed dirt in the room corners, stained and dirty chair seats, and dirty mattresses/box springs. The "dorm size" refrigerator froze everything solid and the microwave was very small and might boil a cup of water in 5 minutes or so. Bathroom toiletries were 3 small bars of soap, a 3/4 used toilet paper roll with a "spare" on the tank. That's it. There were 2 towels (small and rough), two worn out wash clothes and two hand towels. There was hot water. The vanity sink was cracked and stained. The mattresses were worn out a long time ago. It was like sleeping on a sagging sack of potatoes. Roach, ant or bug bait was scattered under the beds - which had not been vacuumed under in a while. Now, to morning coffee. The sole morning amenity was coffee made in a dingy Mr. Coffee type maker. Had it not been served in a styrofoam cup, I would have passed. I do not know how the facility passes a safety codes. I saw one extension cord run through a hole knocked in the wall. If the vanity has a GFCI at the outlet, I missed it. The pluses are few. Friendly staff. Quiet (lack of guests helps). That's it! Finally, this place is a grand old lady that time and lack of maintenance and upgrading have taken their toll. It appears that the owners may be struggling to even pay the bills. There are times in life when one must accept the inevitable. Were this my asset (liability), I would donate it to the city to be ultimately demolished as the land put to better use. This was a tough review to write. I know it will disappoint the owners, but facts are facts.

Stayed awake all night to kill bed bugs! It is 3 am as I write this and watching my granddaughter sleep as she was afraid the bugs would bite her so I told her to sleep and I'll keep watch. Killed so far: 30 bed bugs, 6 micro bugs (they crawl around microwave) and seems like a zillion red spider mites. Keeping lights on so I can see the bed bugs easier. Don't want to bring them home with us! Can hardly wait until the morning comes....leaving here fast!

I used to use this hotel for some of our employees who travel. The employees complained that there was no heat in their rooms last time, and that the man at the front desk appeared to be intoxicated. They also had food missing out of their fridge in the rooms more than once. When I called to give them one more chance the man who answered the phone was very rude. I wanted to reserve 5 rooms and he told me there was no hotel who could accommodate me.

We stayed at this hotel based on the reviews we read at this site. I would never have chosen it by it's curb appeal - the sign is half gone and it looks like a no-tell motel from the road. The rates are great, but you get what you pay for. The room was large, and had a microwave and fridge but it wasn't on, so we couldn't put our food in it for several hours. The towels were dingy, thin and stained, and we only received two sets for two people (more were given on request). We took the bedspread off immediately and saw that the boxspring was badly stained, making us wonder about the mattress (which was lumpy). Behind the door is a sign telling you what you will be charged for stealing items from the shower curtain to the headboard. We did have a great view, the room was clean, the location is convenient, and it was quiet because it was empty - I think there may have been 3 rooms occupied. Also, no coffee maker and no coffee available but there is a great coffee house within a few blocks. We might stay again (but not in the winter those metal stairs could be dangerous.) The owner and the desk clerk were very nice, and as long as you don't expect much you won't be disappointed.
