Great little motel from back in the day, adorably decorated in retro fashion. The motel makes a funky statement to bring a smile to everyone. Remember this is an older motel, and the walls are thin, but the rooms are very nicely updated with comfortable beds. The facility offers a screened in porch area with a tv, as well as a fire pit area with chairs. I only gave the Sunset 4 stars due to the steps outside the main walk, they desperately need hand rails. Our group is older (60's, 70's, 80's) and we felt unsteady on the steps leading from the parking area to the main walk where the rooms are located. I am afraid it is an accident waiting to happen, but if you are looking for an 'old school' motel experience, the Sunset Motel is perfect for you.
We decided to stay in Murphy as part of a four day motorcycle ride leaning into the twisties of the area's beautiful Smoky Mountain backroads. The online reviews of the Sunset Motel were correct. We found a very clean room with a super-comfortable bed, good towels and linens and very nice people. The setting is retro and simple--I hadn't stayed at a motel like this in 25 years and it was fun. Good parking too--we put the bikes in the parking space right in front of our room. And we were able to walk to an wonderful restaurant because the Sunset is right in town.
Very clean, nice white bed linens, mini fridge and microwave, walking distance to down town eateries/shops and parking right outside your door for a good price. What more could you want. The girl at front desk was sweet and there were bikes if you wanted to ride around.
Great job on a remodeled old-school motel, redone in a 60s style, but with some modern improvements. Bathroom was completely new and spotless. Bedroom was a little small by modern standards, but still plenty adequate, and as the bathroom, very clean. Room had a queen bed, TV/wifi, small sitting table, dresser, and a little room to walk around, with bathroom to the side. Nice steakhouse half a block away, and several other eating options within a 5-10 minute walk. The front desk is not staffed 24/7, so check ahead and make sure someone is there if you don't have reservations. I got there around 4:00PM, and had no problems getting a room, but you may have to make other arrangments at other times of the day. Overall, a great option to the chains, and very reasonably priced.
The place was very comfortable and clean. Set up retro-style and within walking distance of the River Walk and downtown. Close to Restaurants. We ate at the Murphy's Chophouse which is almost right across from the hotel (recommend it) Staff was very friendly and professional. Amenities were appropriate. The only thing I didn't like was, that there was no sleeptimer button on the remote. :-)
