In typical ex-truck driver fashion, my husband and I made last minute plans to attend the WNC JeepFest in Maggie Valley and had not looked into accomodations. While it's really only about an hour and a half drive, it feels much longer when snaking through the mountains and we didn't want to have to drive home after spending the day at the Festival Grounds so by hubby decided to look for Jeep-dog friendly accommodations. Did I mention it was last minute?? We're talking he booked our stay mere days before our arrival.
The owners were great!! Even with our last minute booking they did everything they could to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
Most of the suites were already booked so they opened up the "Hideaway" for us and our two dogs, even though they have pets of their own and we'd be right over their heads. They don't typically do this, but since we were kind of in a bind and they understood how important our furkids are to us, they went above and beyond to make sure we had a safe, comfy place to crash after our day at JeepFest.
Not only did they make us and our dogs feel welcome, they made us feel like family. More than once when we were outside entertaining the dogs they'd come out and play with them and even brought their own dogs out to meet ours.
As I stated, we'd never stayed at a B&B before with the exception of one place that referred to itself as a B&B but really just had nothing more than donuts and coffee set out the next morning... so when there was a knock on our door the next morning and two plates of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast were delivered we were pleasantly surprised!
Another great addition to our room was the jacuzzi tub. OMG. There is nothing better than sitting in a deep, bubbling tub after a long day of walking around in the hot summer sun. I honestly didn't expect to see one in the smaller room, but it was there and man did it feel good. After a good soak we laid down on the bed to watch some Netflix on the in-room Roku TV and promptly fell asleep.
The only thing I could recommend is maybe upgrading the mattresses. My husband has a bit of restless leg syndrome going on after walking all day and his kicking would shake the entire bed. Not something I notice as much at home with our memory foam mattress but otherwise I'd definitely recommend Misty Mountain for a nice, quiet change from the bustle of motels.
The Inn keeper made everything very simple from check in until the time we left.
The property is rustic and just a short drive from town. Although, It is a stretch to call it a “ranch” we did enjoy our stay.
1. No one was on the property when we arrived and we didn't know what cabin was ours.
2. The electricity in half of the cabin didn't work. That meant no lights, no television, no bathroom use, and no exterior lights in half of the cabin. One bedroom and one loft was unusable. When we asked about getting the electricity fixed, we were told to go back "and flick the circuit breakers." After trying this and other remedies to no avail, we again went back to the office and requested a room change. We were hoping some of these issues would've been fixed prior to our arrival which was late in the day.
3. The replacement cabin we were offered was 94 degrees. This is not an exaggeration, it is merely a reading from the thermostat. We ended up staying in the half lit cabin.
4. Their website said free breakfast. We were told that "breakfast was for bed and breakfast guests only?"
For ~$175 a night, this is not at all what we expected. Or, at least a minor price break or some sort of remedy would've went a long way with us. However, our credit card had already been charged and no one could've cared less about provided a great experience.
We definitely won't be staying again. Ever.
A very big dissapointment was the "fishing pond". We were prepared with all the fishing gear to take the kids fishing. The pond was very small and did not have any fish stocked in it due to the hot weather, per the owner. It would have been nice to have know this before we arrived.
We would not recommend this "cabin" for average to large sized people.
Next there is very little hot water, so take your showers fast! Again, is hot water too much to ask?
Lastly, there is an ant problem so don't leave even a crumb around or you will be infested.
Again, for the cost, we could have rented a real cabin in the area so I do not believe the cost is worth it for this trailer/cabin.
The TV didn't work. The shower ran out of hot water in 5 minutes. The grounds needed TLC. Not misty or mountain or a ranch...false advertising. Glad we only stayed 2 days. This is one of the worst B&B stays for us.
