We've never stayed at a 'true' B&B before and really weren't even looking for one when we found Misty Mountain Ranch.
In typical ex-truck driver fashion, my husband and I made last minute plans to attend the WNC JeepFest in Maggie Valley and had not looked into accomodations. While it's really only about an hour and a half drive, it feels much longer when snaking through the mountains and we didn't want to have to drive home after spending the day at the Festival Grounds so by hubby decided to look for Jeep-dog friendly accommodations. Did I mention it was last minute?? We're talking he booked our stay mere days before our arrival.
The owners were great!! Even with our last minute booking they did everything they could to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
Most of the suites were already booked so they opened up the "Hideaway" for us and our two dogs, even though they have pets of their own and we'd be right over their heads. They don't typically do this, but since we were kind of in a bind and they understood how important our furkids are to us, they went above and beyond to make sure we had a safe, comfy place to crash after our day at JeepFest.
Not only did they make us and our dogs feel welcome, they made us feel like family. More than once when we were outside entertaining the dogs they'd come out and play with them and even brought their own dogs out to meet ours.
As I stated, we'd never stayed at a B&B before with the exception of one place that referred to itself as a B&B but really just had nothing more than donuts and coffee set out the next morning... so when there was a knock on our door the next morning and two plates of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast were delivered we were pleasantly surprised!
Another great addition to our room was the jacuzzi tub. OMG. There is nothing better than sitting in a deep, bubbling tub after a long day of walking around in the hot summer sun. I honestly didn't expect to see one in the smaller room, but it was there and man did it feel good. After a good soak we laid down on the bed to watch some Netflix on the in-room Roku TV and promptly fell asleep.
The only thing I could recommend is maybe upgrading the mattresses. My husband has a bit of restless leg syndrome going on after walking all day and his kicking would shake the entire bed. Not something I notice as much at home with our memory foam mattress but otherwise I'd definitely recommend Misty Mountain for a nice, quiet change from the bustle of motels.

What a gem to find this b&b off the main highway, but only 3-5 minutes away. All new, super clean, and Covid compliant. Outside is charming, but inside suites are GORGEOUS-wood walls and floors, wood burning fireplaces, new fixtures in tiled bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs, kitchenette with microwave and fridge, and beautiful furnishings and themed decor. Three suites for large family worked out perfectly, but would be also great for couples retreat. Beautiful grounds with lots of space to play in the snow. Snacks and breakfast were also a big plus. Thanks for sharing your ranch with us.

We had the Moonshiners Suite theme room. It’s was clean, fully stocked with coffee etc and overall very cute.
The Inn keeper made everything very simple from check in until the time we left.
The property is rustic and just a short drive from town. Although, It is a stretch to call it a “ranch” we did enjoy our stay.

We were looking forward to a nice stay in one of the cabins. However, we had multiple problems that went unaddressed for our one night stay.

1. No one was on the property when we arrived and we didn't know what cabin was ours.

2. The electricity in half of the cabin didn't work. That meant no lights, no television, no bathroom use, and no exterior lights in half of the cabin. One bedroom and one loft was unusable. When we asked about getting the electricity fixed, we were told to go back "and flick the circuit breakers." After trying this and other remedies to no avail, we again went back to the office and requested a room change. We were hoping some of these issues would've been fixed prior to our arrival which was late in the day.

3. The replacement cabin we were offered was 94 degrees. This is not an exaggeration, it is merely a reading from the thermostat. We ended up staying in the half lit cabin.

4. Their website said free breakfast. We were told that "breakfast was for bed and breakfast guests only?"

For ~$175 a night, this is not at all what we expected. Or, at least a minor price break or some sort of remedy would've went a long way with us. However, our credit card had already been charged and no one could've cared less about provided a great experience.

We definitely won't be staying again. Ever.

Website does not indicate the size of the cabins which is approximately 400sq ft for what they call two bedrooms and a loft! The loft ceiling is approximately 3 feet high. No room for a piece of luggage. The shower barely fits a very small person and hard to turn around in it. The kitchen, futon, tv, eating table are one room. Internet access was not working. Cabins are tired. Bring bug spray for indoor spiders big ones. BBQ rusty. Cats roam property. Buyer beware before you book especially if you have claustrophobia.

Response from Paul083, Front Office Manager at Misty Mountain Ranch
Responded 9 Sept 2014
Our website indicates that we rent Park Model cabins, which are most popular with all other guest. The loft in all cabins are constructed the same and have a 4.6" ceiling. Great for children,a bed and tv are in each loft. Not sure how large there luggage was, but we fit a queen size bed and a tv in all our lofts. Our showers are standard stall showers, which fit most needs of our guests. The wi-fi could have momentarily out, had we been notified, we possibly could have helped them to obtain the same. Our location is in the Smoky Mountains and the Cambell mountain woods.Spiders have been know to reside in this area, and sometimes make themselves comfortable in our facilities. Once notified of the presents of a spider, our staff was sent to their cabin to eliminate the spider. Our grills are located on the decks of each cabin and possibly could have exterior rust, but are still very functional. We employ 3 cats (part of the ranch) to secure the grounds of any type rodents, etc. I'm afraid they are friendly, and love to mingle. Our guest seem to think for such a minimal fee per night that she was going to have received a full size house. She came to our office and without being asked in, she walked right in to our personal space, armed with a I-pad,and the picture of the spider displayed. She then started to take pictures of our every move in the procedure of running her the refund for the balance of their stay. She left with our apology for the misunderstanding of square footage and the woods and mountains adding to her not liking our facilities. Our place is inspected yearly and we are proud to carry a score of 100%.

The "cabins" are trailers with wood siding on them. They are very tiny, but clean and nicely decorated. For two people it was tight. I can't imagine trying to get four or six in there. The shower was so small we knocked our elbows on the walls and could not bend down to wash our feet. The hot water ran out after 5 minutes, so showering was a start-stop-start experience, in the cold, because the heat did not work properly in our bedroom, so we froze most of the time. There were no extra blankets, so at night it was almost unbearably cold. We did not spend a lot of time in the cabin or on the grounds, so the upkeep of the grounds and the pond didn't bother us. If you're looking for a no-frills place to crash, this is for you. If you are going on a vacation where you are planning on spending most of your time at the cabin or on the grounds, this place probably isn't for you. It's not a resort, by any stretch, and there are no activities on site. Also, the directions could use a little work (maybe add the street names and the distances?) The web site indicates that Mapquest's directions aren't very good and to use the owners' directions instead. The place was still a bit difficult to find.

My family of 5 spent a couple of nights in one of the cabins. The cabin was very clean and nicely decorated. However, this was more a camper type home than a cabin. The shower was so small anyone over 5'7 could not stand since the celling was so low. The shorter family members (the kids) enjoyed the small areas and the loft which anyone over 3 ft tall must walk on knees. It felt like a club house for the kids, but not very comfortable for the adults. It was very hot and the air conditioner could not do the job to cool down during the day, however the nights were comfortable.

A very big dissapointment was the "fishing pond". We were prepared with all the fishing gear to take the kids fishing. The pond was very small and did not have any fish stocked in it due to the hot weather, per the owner. It would have been nice to have know this before we arrived.

We would not recommend this "cabin" for average to large sized people.

For the amount of money I paid, I expected more. First be aware these are not cabins. They are trailers made to look like cabins. They are tiny inside. Next, the bed is an old mattress that sinks in the middle. Really? You can't provide a decent mattress?

Next there is very little hot water, so take your showers fast! Again, is hot water too much to ask?

Lastly, there is an ant problem so don't leave even a crumb around or you will be infested.

Again, for the cost, we could have rented a real cabin in the area so I do not believe the cost is worth it for this trailer/cabin.

We read a review that raved about this place, and should have looked more into it. It was not worth the time in driving there, or the money we spent staying for one night. Customer service was horrific. When we asked for recommendations to shop or eat, she told us to go to the visitors center in town. Bed was decent, but covered in plastic, which made it hard to adjust body temps.

One of the owners has had a stroke and it shows in the upkeep. We stayed in a "log cabin" which was really a trailer with wood siding. They have 6 trailers in a row in their yard which seemed to lean more on profit for the owners than a good experience for the guests.
The TV didn't work. The shower ran out of hot water in 5 minutes. The grounds needed TLC. Not misty or mountain or a ranch...false advertising. Glad we only stayed 2 days. This is one of the worst B&B stays for us.
