Right by the beach so the location was great. The hotel definitely needs some updating and work. The halls were musty and dark. The rooms were decent and fairly clean but damp and musky. I came here on a special deal and would again but I would not come back if I had to pay full price.

Had no problems with the room and it was pet friendly. My dog loved our visit to this spot. The beach access was nice and it was a pretty quiet place to stay. The only issue would be the ice machine or lack there of. Ice is available by the bag but its an additional charge.

A quick break in late September provided excellent weather. After a bit of checking about the exact location of the John Yancey Inn's "Upper Level" or "Interior" rooms (above the breakfast room, accessible by corridor that connects to the Sea Building, including its ramp to the north parking area (there is one step from Sea Building to these rooms). While...

My family and I decided to go to the Outer Banks a day early since our beach home was a sun-sun rental. Upon check-in there was a mis-communication of how many people were going to be in the room (booked with a third party) and they only had me listed for 2 people when in fact I had 7 we...

We booked this hotel through a third party provider, and we were reminded of that by the hotel staff every time we talked with them. I guess they don't like it when you get a better price elsewhere. A big storm was coming, and per the parking lot I don't think the hotel was full (lots of cancellations in the...

We are from Pennsylvania and had arrived at the hotel literally 12 minutes prior to the 4 p.m. check-in time noted on the booking confirmation. We were denied check in and were told to come back...ok, so I went back in the office 12 minutes later and had wait for better than 10 minutes to be "checked in." Once we...

The location of the John Yancey hotel is great -- right on the water! The rooms were just okay. Linens were low-quality, and the sheets weren't the cleanest. Our sheets needed replaced because there was sand still on our original set when we arrived. I'd stay again, but not if I wanted something particularly nice.

I was excited initially after speaking to the lovely lady on the phone who confirmed my room. She was helpful and polite and it was virtually painless to book. When we arrived.. we were surprised it seemed like a different atmosphere. The first thing we noticed when checking in was the lack of advertisement on the sign at the road....

Very basic rooms and a bit of a rowdy crowd on a Friday evening. Had an oceanfront room which had a great view despite the loud music from next door. Bed was average. Bathroom was average. Free breakfast included albeit too simple.

I'm not one to give really negative reviews, but this was not a good place to stay. It is in DIRE need of a renovation. It looks like something from the 60s, and not in a good way. When we checked in, we were told we could find something "by the phone." There was no phone. When I called the...
