This review is about 11 months overdue. I spent 2.5 weeks at Lower Dover as a part of a fieldwork endeavor In February 2014. Bill, Madeline, Justin, and the rest of the crew went above and beyond the call of duty. I cannot say enough great things about them! If you are considering a vacation in Belize, you must stay...

This place is so excellent! Madrid and her family are so helpful and can organise anything for you! The food is delicious, veg*an friendly as well! Just as the bus driver to stop outside the lower dover sign and you can walk to the property (if you have a backpack) or get a taxi. Very nice :)

I stayed 4 nights in the Lower Dover Eco Lodge. It was a most pleasant experience. The dorm where I slept was spacious and clean. I met travelers from different countries at supper. Madeline made the best food for me which I apreciated a lot afted a tiresome day of exploring. She had no problem cooking the most delicious meals...

My new wife and I spent 5 nights at Lower Dover in the Red Cabana and ate almost every breakfast and dinner on site. Our room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful and we could hear the stream at night. Maddie (or Madeline) is a rock star, helpfully arranging the best (affordable and with the best guides) tours for you and...

Lower Dover's exceptional owner, Madeline, is what really makes it an amazing place to stay. She knows the area very well and her tour of the ruins/medicinal plants is very cool. The breakfast and dinner available are all organic and the prices for both food and the bunkhouse are a steal. Lower Dover is basically everything a traveler could want;...

The hosts here were so helpful & enthusiastic about sharing their little piece of Belize with us. The grounds include a complex of mayan ruins enshrouded in the jungle. Perhaps one day, it will be fully restored by archaeologists, but for now, it's fascinating to walk the grounds with Madeline, while she explains how the pyramids & other structures were...

Lower Dover really is an incredible site and a great place to base yourself for sites surrounding San Ignacio. We stayed in the Red Cabana though basic (it's an eco-lodge) it had everything needed for a comfortable six night stay. The home cooked food was absolutely delicious and Justin was very helpful in setting up a tours to the ATM...

Rooms were comfortable and rustic - well protected to keep out mosquitos. Hosts were extremely friendly and helpful in sorting out transport and tours for a good price. The hibiscus wine made onsite was delicious and well worth a try! Walking tours around the Mayan ruins are a must!

I couldn't select May 2013, which is when we traveled. My friends and I found ourselves looking for a place to stay last minute, and stumbled across Lower Dover in a travel book. Our hostess was incredibly accommodating, and took us our exploring the ruins (watch out for snakes!). The food was delicious and worth every penny, and it was...

This really is a lodge and a field station. Our cabana was private and more comfortable than expected, with warm water showers and pretty colors. We enjoyed the communal meals with good food and site-made wine. Walking the rain forest trails by ourselves was delightful. Justin's relaxed, personal tour of the land--with its unexcavated Maya city that may change how...
