Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We picked this hotel for it´s price and reasonable reviews online. We were not disappointed. Service was friendly. The room itself a bit outdated, but not bad. Slept well. Big parking space. Enough food options, all along the Main road.

I have stayed at this hotel with my friends while on way to Atlantic beach for several years. The hotel is always clean and the staff is always friendly. I recently left my wallet in the room, with many credit cards and some cash. The hotel called my home and notified me that the wallet was there. They kept it locked away until I came back to get it. I came after 5 pm on a Saturday and the receptionist did not have the code to get the wallet, but she made a few phone calls and within 30 minutes someone came in and retrieved the wallet for me. I would like to THANK the entire staff for their honesty, trustworthiness and above all their desire to go above the call of duty to help me retrieve the wallet at the least inconvenience to me. I highly recommend this location for business travel also. It is not a resort, It is not a five star hotel, but when it comes to just good business travel it is always above and beyond what is necessary. As for the reviews of being outdated that I have read, the hotel does regular updates to paint and carpet and like any hotel they are not always new, but I have always found that the rooms are kept well. The hotel is clean and the few rooms that were once smoking rooms and have now been converted to non-smoking do still have a lingering odor for those of us that do not smoke....however the staff has always been willing to move me to rooms that do accommodate our preference of non-smoking.If you are looking for a great stay, with pleasant and accommodating staff and a clean room with all the necessary conveniences (microwave, frig, internet, comfortable beds, cleanliness and good size TV's and spacious rooms) then the Sherwood in Havlock NC is a great choice.

Wow! Not bad for the price! We recently stayed there on our way through to the South, and will be staying there on my way back. Used to stay at the Days Inn, but I like this place. It is older, but it seems that the owner is slowly working on some updating. If you are looking for a place to stay while you do other things, this is worth it. They do not have frills, but I am okay with that, and I don't expect it for the price.
I can go to the ocean which is not that far away and then get away from it all by coming back here at night.

I stayed here on Saturday September 2nd in room 216, when I read the reviews I was thinking maybe the people were just really high maintenanced because of all the bad reviews this place was given. I am not a high maintenanced person at all but this was the worst hotel I have ever witnessed. I work at the front desk of a hotel and I have cleaned rooms before and this place was unacceptable. I still stayed because it was late when I noticed everything and the bed sheets appeared to be clean. When I went to the desk to check out and tell the front desk all of the problems which I did very nicely because I know what it’s like to work at the front desk of a hotel and get a complaint about a dirty room, most the time the front desk has nothing to do with the actual room itself. The only thing front desk does it check you in. I’m showing the lady the pictures I didn’t even get her name but she was Indian I believe. And all she can say is that the stains on my towels were bleach stains, I understand a yellow stain may be a bleach stain but the stains on the towels in my room were not all bleach stains, some of it was brown and black which should be thrown out away from the rags and towels given to the guest. The sink had tiny pieces of hair around it that looked like beard hair or private genital hair, she had no comment to that picture. The shower curtain had black mold all over it. All of the stuff I had in the fridge which was just some sandwich meat and cheese, had to be thrown away because the fridge didn’t work. I even had stuff in the freezer when I went to get it out it wasn’t even refrigerator cold. There was a bunch of food and trash behind the dresser where I plugged my charger up. When I showed her this picture she then asked me why I pulled the dresser out from the wall which I then explained to her that was one of the only outlets available in the room she barely had any words to say to me. She did not apologize for the service, she didn’t even seem like she cared. As I was leaving she was taking a picture of me I believe because she had her phone up at the window pointed towards me. The room was $90.20 after tax which is normally a good deal for a hotel room but this room should of been priced at maybe $60 it was disgusting. I would not stay here.

The room was "Not" up to date!!! Seemed ok upon first glance then I remembered the sign at the office that said " you have 5 minutes to check your room to get your money back " so 5 minutes had already passed and I started looking around to find hair in the shower along with used soap , dead spiders on the floor, dirty microwave, roach powder along the wall beside the fridge and then there was what looked like fresh semen on the comforter and stains on "all " the furniture. Terrible, Terrible!!!! Won't be back!!! Made me sick to my stomach, didn't want to stay but didn't have much of a choice, good thing we brought our own blankets.

Travelers who don't frequent trip advisor will probably end up here because it is cheap but nasty. Desperate folks will get shafted. I was there for 2 weeks working for the place. Normally the Sherwood gets $200.00 per week for rent. I worked as an electrician and a HVAC tech for an agreed fee of $10.00/hr for 25 hrs in lire of rent. That makes me paying $250.00 per week. When I realized the owner was unscrupulous I said I was leaving giving notice. The overtime pay rate after 50 hrs equaled min. wage for the incorrect hours. This operator is a scam artist. He should be investigated by the IRS and The Federal Bureau of Wage and Hour. In addition, the rooms are filthy, mold ridden, appliances don't work, and the constant sound of military jets performing landing and takeoffs, despite being patriotically comforting, at Cherry Point Navel Air Station, is deafening. Spend a little more money for a better nights sleep and better amenities in New Bern, Morehead or elsewhere. DO NOT SUPPORT THE SHERWOOD MOTEL!!!!

I stayed here June 5 2014 and This motel was the worst place I've ever stayed. I pulled the comforter back to find blood all over the sheets. When the sheets were changed there was a 6 inch centipede under the sheets. The room smelled awful... Although the motel was almost completely vacant they wouldn't allow us to have a bottom floor. It was storming so bad that the parking lot was flood & they had no covering over the stair so all of my clothes & bags were soaked...even though there was only 4 cars in the parking lot at the most the night we checked in and the morning after...I asked for a late check out bc I had to be at a graduation but the rest of my family couldn't come...even though they sd I could have a late check out. .before I was able to get back they had kicked my family out in 90 degree weather and NO ONE was checking in that needed the room. I pulled up to find my family sitting outside in the heat & sun. I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay there! A waste of money!!!!!

This was the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at! First of all the front desk staff was nice on the phone but lied about the distance to a job site that I was working at. She stated it was three miles when it was 30 minutes causing me to be late to work! The room was a nightmare! The floor in the room was wet and their was mold growing in the room!! The shower was leaking causing the floor to be wet. To top this horrible experience their were roaches!! This is unbelievable! I came home and there were roaches in my bag from the hotel!! Please stay away from this place. I should have known by the looks of the outside!!!

My daughter and I stayed here one summer while visiting my son at Cherry Point. The room was very clean, and they put a fridge, and a microwave in our room, since we were staying a whole week. The rates were also very reasonable. If we went back to Havelock, we would try to stay here.

Tried two different rooms, all had a distinct odor of mildew and other biological miscelli that assault you in the face as soon as you open the door. Staff claimed not to notice, possibly have no ability to smell. Insects were attracted to my room, had to buy my own fly strips and stomp a roach from entering my bed. AC unit is loud and has approximate temperature ratings of 'cold' and 'arctic blast,' with a single fan speed of 'gale force.' On the plus side, anyone with tinnitus like myself will be entirely unable to hear it over the ChillMaster 500000 next to your bed. Had to request a change of the lights above the sink as none of them worked, and the shower drain would back up slightly at times, revealing to us a Tangle Monster of previous tenants' hair. Someone decided to use the sink drain as a trashcan, which the management was apparently unable to remedy.

If my car seat laid down completely flat, I would have flipped a coin to decide whether I stayed at this place for in my vehicle. I wish I had taken pictures of everything.
