#6 of 12 hotels in Hatteras Island
The Breakwater Inn is located in the quaint fishing village of Hatteras. It is comprised of 2 buildings, the Sound Front building and the Fisherman's Quarters. The main building is the Sound Front building and all the rooms in that building have a private balcony with a stunning view overlooking the Pamlico Sound. These rooms have 2 queen beds with the exception of the king suites, which have a king bed and a pullout couch. All rooms in this building have a microwave, mini fridge, and a coffee pot. The king suites have a full stove, pots, pans, dishes, etc. They also have a Jacuzzi tub and a stand alone shower. All rooms in this building are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The rooms in the Fisherman's Quarters have 2 double beds, microwave, mini fridge, and coffee pot. These rooms are ground level and have do not have a view of the water. Our handicap accessible rooms are in the Fisherman's Quarters. The Fisherman's Quarters are pet friendly, with a flat pet rate per stay.

Warm welcome to a comfortable motel on the water at the marina. Room was clean and quiet. Bit of a musty smell. Opened the door to the deck and aired it out. The Island is rebounding from a brush with Hurricane Dorian. These are stubborn and resourceful hardworking people. Always nice and friendly. Appreciate the coffee and pastry in the office check-in. Would come back.

Room Tip: I would go with first floor, which is elevated at least ten feet over the parking lot.

We stayed a couple of nights in the Fisherman's Front room. We could drive up to it and was accessible friendly. It was an older room, but it was well maintained and a large space. It was right on Oden's Dock, and we enjoyed watching the charter boats come in, We shared time with the locals as we watched them clean fish and heard fishing stories. My husband was able to use his electric bike up and down the docks, which gave him a lot of mobility. There is a family owned restaurant on site which added to the convenience and good food too. Harbor House seafood and Miss Vicki made our trip too. It would be a fun place to make a return a visit.

The staff was very warm and welcoming! The rooms had everything you need to have an enjoyable time in the OBX - nice sized balcony facing the marina, mini fridge... The room seemed clean and generally well cared for. The continental breakfast gets the job done, but for a warm breakfast, definitely go across the street as they recommend - it was delicious! From a location perspective, there just isn't a lot to do on Hatteras, so there isn't a lot to walk to - just a few restaurants and a Wings store. The beach access and other food/stores are a short drive away. This would be the same no matter where you stay at Hatteras though I'm sure. We really enjoyed our stay!

Not realizing that literally EVERYTHING shuts down between Christmas and New Years on Ocracoke Island, there was nothing to do and no pirates to see, so we ventured to the next ferry heading to Hatteras Island. Well, same story there but this time a beautiful rainstorm greeted us at the door of the Breakwater Inn! It looked deserted - no cars parked anywhere. We found the office and were quickly checked in by the owner, I assume, who was very friendly and accommodating. Up to the top (third) floor we go and were so surprised to be in a beautifully decorated room, clean and very well lit! Even in the rain, it was so peaceful and the beautiful view of the boats and the Pamlico Sound only added to its charm. The morning view didn't disappoint either and it was very hard to leave. But we'll be back the next time around!

We needed three rooms for our group of four. Two of us are single, two are a couple. It is important to note that we stayed in the FISHERMANS QUARTERS rooms. This is the older of the two buildings they have here. one is older and the other is newer. We visited to fish in the winter season. When checking their rates be sure to click in the date so that you can get the best rate for that time of year. When we booked the advertised price was the full price, taxes and everything. The rooms were VERY affordable and offered exactly what we needed. Things really shut down in this village when the tourist season ends. That works well for fishermen. The drive to the southern tip of the island can really save you some money if you are seeking an offshore charter and lodging. Nov. first, many of the businesses were closed for the winter or running shorter hours for the slow season. You will still be able to find good dining and basic needs met right here in town. When fishing, you don't need a fancy room, you want a safe, clean, quiet, comfortable, and dry place to sleep and relax at days end. This offers exactly that. The rooms have a front porch to sit on at the end of the day. Refrigerator was helpful. Tile floors are very clean (no sand on the floors, NO moldy smells)). Everything was clean and in great condition, a bit dated but in excellent condition. THERE ARE NEWER AND NICER ROOMS AVAILABLE HERE. Those rooms have waterfront views of the docks. You can pay a bit more for those if that is what you want. With the "fisherman's quarters" rooms you have an old style motor inn. You can park your car right at your rooms front door. If you are fishing the big head boats, you have a 30 second walk to the dock in the morning and upon your return. If you are taking a charter out of one of the other marinas you will be within two or three minutes of your destination. If your trip is about fishing from Hatteras, I do not think that there is a better, and more affordable option available. This was exactly what I was wanting for this trip. I hope to stay here again.
