Stayed for 1 night right off of the BRP, Great camping, friendly people, many wide open spaces, clean facilities, fire pit, stayed in tent camping area and couldn’t be happier. Highly recommended. Hot clean showers / bathrooms.

I visited this campground with four other ladies while we were backpacking on the Mountains to Sea trail for a weekend outing. The staff was welcoming and very accommodating. They went above and beyond to help us get situated for the evening. The campground is very clean and well-maintained. I would highly recommend that for any camper (tent, RV, etc)

This is a beautiful campground but not tent friendly. Our original site was all gravel but they did let us move. Bathhouse was not very nice and they did not see that the visitors followed rules. Dog poopy not cleaned up, disorderly drunk visitors, golf carts running around too fast too late and tooo early. If you stay in a camper would probably be better for you. Just watch your step when out walking the grassy areas!!!!! Again a nice area but just not for me.

Park states pets allowed, what they do not mention is pets are not tolerated by the mostly seasonal site campers, great campground if you have no pets. NOT PET FRIENDLY..... Owner is nice, his wife likes dogs but you'll be run out by the seasonal people if you have a dog. We paid for a Month left after two weeks. We've traveled the country in our RV never been exposed to anything like it NOT PET FRIENDLY

I made reservations for primative tent camp site for my family and our friends. In my resevation requested, i was very specific about what we need adn where we wanted to camp. The campgrounds responded, gave me my total and confirmed the resevations. When we got there to check in, EVERYTHING changed. we were told the amoutn I was given in the email confirmation was not correct and the amount was almost double what was confirmed back. Helen (I believ that's here name) would not honor what was confirmed and was EXTREMELY RUDE. The comments she made and the way she spoke to us was completely uncalled for and nasty. She was even ugly to my husband later in weekend went he went to buy ice.
Aside from Helen, the campground in very nice. We stayed in the field at the side of the campground and enjoyed it. It is open and you can just pick you spoke. The bath houses are pretty clean and cleaned regularly. They have a fishing pond at the front.
All in all, we loved the campground and would like to come back but will think twice before going. All because of Helen and how rude she was. I guess she doesn't want repeat business.

Called to cancel reservations due to rain and commented to the owner it has NOT rained in months & then when we decided to come to campground for the 1st time it rains. She commented "Well you should have thought about that sooner". I said, "Excuse me, my husband just finished his Cancer Treatments". How rude to a potential customer. They gave me a bad taste for this campground and will NEVER stay here.

I set my reservation in April and had to have a $50 deposit. That was fine. I reserved a primitive tent site which online says it is $22 a night. So my total after the deposit should have been $104 or less if there is a discount for the whole week. When I arrived my total was $164.80 they did not write down my deposit and the lady in the office thought I needed to pay the whole bill. I had to show her my bank account to prove the $50 deposit. I thought the extra money was tax. When I called to see if I could get my money back if I checked out early she told me they only do refunds for extreme emergencies and that is only 1 nights stay. That is when I found out that I was charged extra. Instead of charging me for primitive tent site they charged me for a tent site with water. I didn't even have a spiket at my site and she told me no that it was within the few sites and it was a pole sticking out of the ground. She charged me $25 a night instead of the $22 and I stayed a week. And even so on their website a tent site with water is only 160 a week so they still would have charged me $4.80 extra. The campsite was not level and it was very open. I had golf carts driving through my site. They are mostly concerned about their seasonal campers and the lady in the office has a huge attitude. I will never stay there again its a horrible campground for those staying a small amount of time.

I first stayed at Raccoon Holler as a Child back in the late 70's. It was one of my Favorites. As an adult, I have brought my kids there as it is one of the cleanest, mountain campgrounds in all of NC. Let me say it has changed a bunch...... It is overwhlemingly Seasonal campers who have taken all of the nice Camp Sites. If you are not a seasonal renter you'll get stuck in the back row or on one of the leftover sites that nobody wants.
With the older crowd of campers they do not let Kids ride scooters or skateboards. I am guessing because the retirees want absolute quiet. There is no Pool, nor can you rent boats or canoes. Basically your kids can fish in the lake or go to the Game Room...... That's why my kids are not Fans of this campground.
I still visit the campground - the views and the area are beautiful. It is convenient to West Jefferson, and not too far away from Boone, and being right on the Blue Ridge Parkway is an added bonus.
WI-FI is also Non existent.
Years ago I would give it 5 stars. At this point I am at 3 stars.

Beautiful campground, but the sites are NOT level as the advertising states. This campground strictly caters to the seasonal campers. Also beware, there are hidden charges (i.e., for using your a/c).
