Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent a week at the Outer Banks Motel from 8-13-2016 until 8-20-2016. You can't get any closer to the beach and our kids loved swimming in the pool. As we stayed here in the past also, we didn't expect the accommodations to rival the Hilton. However, we did have a great time and the room was perfect for us. Thank you to the staff of the OBM for a great stay!

I wanted to stay at the Motel, but it was booked out - so I ended up at Cottage F. The cottages are in the village, but a more appropriate description would be "directly on Highway 12". the place has no charm, no Wifi, no TV in the bedroom. Everything is pretty run down and I didn't feel safe at all. For this, the rate is far too high. After one night i fled, altough i booked two. As far as the staff is concerned - no service attitude whatsoever.

We enjoyed our stay and picked this hotel because they allowed us to bring our dog. The unit was clean but dated. Glad to have a kitchen. This area of the outer banks is less crowded and less commercial so it is very relaxing.

Rooms are dated, but very clean. A few weird things going on with the furnishings - including a random professionally matter photo of a young girl "Stacy" hanging in the kitchen. Wifi connection isn't awesome unless you're right by the pool. The walls are very thin an we could hear our neighbors walking around and talking every night we were there. The place is super close to Hattara's national shore and they are also located beach front. The have a restaraunt place across the street and a beach store next door.

We stayed in an ocean view cottage, and it was very nice. The room is very dated but very clean, and accommodating. The pool was great for I am not a beach person, definitely a great girls week was had by all!

Very tidy Little Cottage in Hatteras Village. The place has all the things one would need to cook dinner, or Just Hang out. If you want an ocean front, you had better book well in advance! Very Nice people operate this.

I'm 59 years old and my first trip to this motel was when I was 2. It's changed a lot since the old days because of devastating nor'easters. The cottage we used to stay in is now 50 feet beyond the breakers. But the Dillons (owners) have done a remarkable job remaking this wonderful place after every natural impact (i.e., rising sea levels, movement of the island west 1 ft. per year, and government inaction on protecting barrier islands). The family still runs the place and that's what makes it so wonderful. It's not a chain or corporate conglomerate. Your unit will be within just a few feet of the beach. We love staying in unit 100 because that's where the Dillon's lived when I was a little kid. We count down the days every year for when we're headed to the Outer Banks

We have stayed at the Outer banks motel more than a dozen times. We have stayed in the oceanfront cottages, 1 bedroom cottage as well as regular hotel room. They have always been very clean and comfortable. This place has old school decor. We don't spend alot of time in the room as we our enjoying the beach. The staff is very courteous...This place is very affordable and close to town...We will continue to choose Outer Banks Motel when we visit Hatteras.

My family and I had to pack ourselves and our toddler up at 10pm at night after several three inch long cockroaches came out from under the doors, cabinets, and one even fell from the ceiling, which was the final straw. The nightmare began with a huge black spider in the bathtub when I went to give my daughter a bath, which even after killing the spider, I declined, due to the sand that was left in the drain and around the drain mechanism. Then progressed to the cockroaches by nightfall. We ended up finding a vacancy at a local inn. My little girl was horrified. Clearly needs fumigation and better insulation so that insects can not get in the weather stripping. Gross. Spend an extra $20 and skip the African indoor insect safari.
