We had planned on backpacking and car camping in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park... but the weather had other ideas. So we drove up to the Fryemont Inn and they had a room for us. Everything they say on their website is pretty much true. We stayed two nights. Their

The rooms are nice and not small. There is no TV in the rooms and no air conditioning, but even in the summer (Aug) the rooms were good to sleep in. The Inn was built in 1923. The Inn takes you back to that time.

Driving up the hill to Fryemont Inn was our first hint at what an unusual stay we would be experiencing. The rustic, tree sided inn is set in the woods overlooking Bryson City. The expansive lobby offers a glimpse into a past time few can visualize. Board games, books, life size

It's usually in the 50s and 60s in early March, and in the 60s and low 70s in late March. I'd contact the outdoor venues you'd like to do (like ziplining or whitewater rafting, both of which are cool), to see if they are open for the season in March.

The train station is 5 minutes from the lodge. Bryson City is very small, so if anything is within the city, it won't take long to get to it. I don't know anything about the ballooning events. You might contact the lodge and see if they know where tickets can be purchased.

Is there wi-fi available on the property?
Hello. The cabins and balcony rooms have wifi. There is wifi available in the lobby of the lodge. Wifi is not available in all the rooms; but this IS an experience of being free from the short chain.
