The small family run motel is a real gem. The room is spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable. There’s a fire pit with picnic tables right down by the river and we had a lovely evening in front of a fire. I highly recommend it. The host is a very gracious.

I am a 100% handicap, disabled veteran. that has a service dog. Made my reservation on line, third party. Drove 8 hours, one way. Was told that because I didn't have my service dog's shot record, no record, no room. I tried to reason with the owner to no avail.; explained Federal law. He replied, "I make the rules here.' Read the owners Facebook page BEFORE making reservation...scary!

We were very pleasantly surprised with how nice this little gem was. We arrived very, very late, but the owners stayed up to check us in. The beds were so comfortable. The room was perfectly clean. It was just immaculate. It is an older property, but I don’t understand the complaints about the size of the bathroom. There is a toilet and a tub. The sink is near the little closet. What else do you need? It is not the Ritz Carlton. It is charming and old school and fun. The only thing I didn’t love is that the water would not transfer to the shower completely, no matter how I tried, so I had a really weak water pressure shower. That’s just a plumbing problem that can be corrected. It is a charming. The owners are friendly. It is very clean. I just wish we hadn’t arrived so late so we could have enjoyed it a bit more. It was lovely.

The lodge was such a nostalgic place to classic America mountain motel. The rooms were very clean. The owners were very friendly and sweet. Having the river on the back made it even more special. It has spacious open parking lot for any trucks with trailers. Family style atmosphere. My favorite was seeing humming birds by the office, since they had bird feeders. Overall, perfect simple mountain lodge!

On October 22,2019 I made a reservation for October 23 and 24, 2019. I booked the reservation online. I mentioned that I would be brining my service dog with me. I am 100% service-connected disabled and need my service dog, When I arrived, the co-owner, Mr. Blaine Shobe requested my service dog’s shot record. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Americans Disability Act (ADA) guidance does not require any documentation. I told Mr., Shobe it was not required, he told me “I make the rules s I need to see your service dog shot record.” I went to my vehicle to retrieve a copy of the guidance. When I showed it to Mr. Shobe, He had a copy of the guidance and admitted he was aware of what it said, He then repeated with “rule” statement. I left, found another hotel that accepted us with no issues or “rules.” I tried to file a complaint with the local police department, sheriff’s office and magistrate’s office. No support or interest. Glad to know the “good old boy network “is alive and well. Bottom line, stay if you want; I won’t even go into Swain County, NC.

U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division Disability Rights Section Frequently Asked Questions about Service Animals and the ADA Q18: My city requires all dogs to be vaccinated. Does This apply to my service animal? A: Yes: Individuals who have service animals are not exempt from local animal control or public health requirements. Q25: When can service animals be excluded? A: The ADA does not require covered entities to modify policies, practices, or procedures if it would "fundamentally alter"the nature of the goods, services, programs, or activities provided to the public. Nor does it overrule legitimate safety requirements. If admitting service animals would fundamentally alter the nature of a service or program, service animals may be prohibited. in addition, if a particular service animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it, or if it is not housebroken, that animal may be excluded. "Nor does it overrule legitimate safety requirements" A few years ago we used to allow pets and all pet owners were required to present proof of up to date vaccinations of the animal for the safety of our other guests, our family and other pets. We no longer allow personal pets but we retain the safety requirement that proof of up to date vaccinations be presented for the safety of our other guests, our family and other service animals. We do have service animals that stay with us occasionally and no handlers have had issue supplying vaccination records. We travel with our dogs (which are not service animals) and carry vaccination records with us and have been required to supply them on occasion. As for being a red neck... I do not take offense. I work mostly outside a lot and the back of my neck gets burned in the sun. So I consider it to mean hard working. God bless you. Have a great and prosperous life.
